About this deal

Success in pupillage applications and beyond with our Future Pupil Programme, part of our award-winning Careers and Employability Service, available from the moment you accept your place. Adam Kramer (2007). Bewigged and Bewildered: Pupillage and a Career at the Bar. Hart Publishing. ISBN 978-1-84113-651-6. This course has been approved by Manchester Metropolitan University to start in September 2020. Pending full authorisation by the Bar Standards Board.

Pro bono pathway:students carry out pro bono work throughout the year, providing free legal advice to members of the public under the supervision of a master’s solicitor. At the end of the year, the students write a critical reflective review of their pro bono experiences. Some bars must be smelt with coal (e.g. runite ore), while others only require the ore itself (e.g. gold ore). The Blast Furnace can assist in the process by allowing a player to smith bars requiring only half the coal needed. However, bars such as bronze bars require copper ore and tin ore to be smelt together. From recent graduates to doctors and front bench MPs, our BVS programmes cater both for those who have always been dedicated to a professional legal career as well as people seeking a career change, and those who are able to make use of the training together with a professional legal qualification in business, management or administration. Croft, Janes (7 April 2015). "Bar weighs option of breaking up barristers' training". The Financial Times . Retrieved 14 August 2015. Barristers at Keating Chambers share their views on how to build you career in construction law and give advice on how to get into the field. (sponsored feature)

Why choose our Bar training courses?

Opportunities range from minimal to superb across the nine providers. Again our BPTC providers table has the details. Our full and part-time programme offers you a choice of learning methods and routes depending on your requirements and learning style. The Bar Practice Course (BPC), previously the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), is the qualifying postgraduate course allowing graduates to prepare and practise as barristers in England and Wales. It is the vocational stage of training, which you’re required to pass before you can go on to complete the final, practical stage of training; pupillage. Give yourself the best chance to secure pupillage and prepare for life as a barrister with our high quality tutoring, designed and delivered by qualified practitioners with unparalleled experiences in delivering advocacy. It's not too late to apply. Applications for our January 2024 intake close on Wednesday 13 December 2023. Note, you must book and attend a selection event prior to this date.

Eight law schools are authorised by the Bar Standards Board (BSB) to teach the course at locations in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle. The full-time course lasts a year; the part-time option is spread over two. Those with the gift of the gab, step up please. The Bar Course (formally the BPTC) is expensive and tough. It's a one-year course which you are required to undertake before starting pupillage. Around 1,000 individuals graduate from the BPC each year. Real-life simulations. Teaching on all modules, including elective modules, takes place in the context of realistic scenarios or case papers that simulate the sort of instructions and briefs you will encounter in practice.

Your career at the Bar

Have different names depending on the provider. Look for courses titled Bar Course, Bar Training Course (BTC), Bar Practice Course (BPC), Bar Vocational Course (BVC) and Bar Vocational Studies (BVS). The role of a Barrister is to offer specialist legal advice whilst representing and defending a client in the court room. A number of these institutions provide both postgraduate diplomas (PGDips) and Masters level courses (LLM).
