About this deal

The biggest differences with the S2s are heard in the bass, where the new version is so much more precise and controlled; these speakers are cleaner, more insightful and have notably more punch than their forebears.

The audio decoding of the DMP-A6 Master Edition is entrusted to two ESS ES9038 Q2M DAC chips, a high-performance model widely recognized by audiophiles. It also supports high-resolution audio streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512, as well as decoding of MQA files.

The finish, at this price point, is exemplary, and really impressive, with the high-resolution touchscreen flush to the top and sides, it is very pleasing indeed. The Eversolo DMP-A6 is a network audio streamer. We’ll cover the spec at length (and I’ll tell you now, it does a fair bit) but the most important thing to convey about the DMP-A6 is not what it is but what it isn’t. Eversolo is not a completely new company. It is a wing of Zidoo which has supplied a wide ranging set of components to us over the years. All of those devices; even the very audio orientated Neo S and Neo Alpha players, have video functionality built into their hardware. This is slightly niche but potentially very handy; if you want one box to handle everything, those two devices are extremely capable. A simple volume dial with a subtle LED glow around it completes the front panel. We like how you can control the brightness of the screen and the LED dial ring in varying increments. It’s a nice little touch in a product full of thoughtful little extras. Another extra feature? You can choose various spectrum visualisers or VU meter displays to be shown on screen – or neither – to add a layer of interest and retro charm to your streamer. And, while we loved the predecessors, this pair of updated speakers proves significantly more capable. No matter how we play songs and from whatever source, the Eversolo takes it all in its stride. It’s a very taut, punchy sound. The streamer delivers music with solid, clear notes and good space around instruments – it’s an upfront presentation that sounds as efficient as it is to use. We find this approach isn’t aggressive or hard in any way at either side of the frequency range – it just wants to be noticed.

The audio decoding of the DMP-A6 is entrusted to two ESS ES9038 Q2M DAC chips, a high-performance model widely recognized by audiophiles. It also supports high-resolution audio streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512, as well as decoding of MQA files. This feeling is enhanced by the Eversolo app which is vastly more capable than the Zidoo branded examples. The reasons for this are twofold. The first is that the app genuinely does do more than before but does it in a way that is more logical and confidence inspiring than was previously the case. Once you have scanned your library, the browsing experience really is good; able to keep anything from similarly priced rivals honest once you’ve let it render and stabilise. The second is that the focus the Eversolo has on being an audio only device means that it has been forced to be more focused. Nothing had been left accessible only via on screen menus or otherwise away from where you expect to find it. A really excellent feature is the ability to cast the front display to your mobile device which makes adjusting menus vastly more simple. If it can be tweaked to be available in landscape (portrait only is a pain when your iPad has a keyboard attached) it would be absolutely perfect. It is worth noting that some of these refinements will make their way to the Zidoo products in due course too.Firstly, Stellar job by Audio Emotion. Perfect service and I'll definitely be buying more from these guys again. I'm still copying my files to the 2TB SSD I installed, but I'm a Roon user and have been able to try the unit out via Roon immediately. Fantastic sound straight out of the box and I cant imagine anyone would be disappointed with this. Whilst my Auralic has the upgraded chips you will find in the master addition of this unit, the differences are quite subtle and the sound of the DAC is very similar. Total bargain for the entry price.

Decoding is also recognisably related to what has gone before but, at the price that the Eversolo enters the market, it feels impressive. The DMP-A6 uses a pair of ES9038Q2M DACs which means that its fully balanced section is able to run with each channel being able to sum the negative and positive signal which is reasonably unusual at the price. Unbalanced RCA connections are also available and everything is powered by a low noise switching power supply that has been engineered with choke filters for additional noise rejection. It is also compatible with third-party applications such as; Apple music, Spotify, Deezer, Napster, KKbox. Little extras that make the difference: filters, VU meters and aluminum chassisdelicate vocals to be the focus of your attention... the bass response is excellent. There's all the depth you could reasonably require, but it never comes at the expense of that effortless detail retrieval and excellent integration with the upper registers. The soundstage is also beautifully judged. Everything has the space it needs to breathe, but its ability to match the scale of the music being played is deeply impressive. The A6 has a lovely solid aluminium alloy chassis in a matt finish that is one of those that scratches or rubs up easily with dry hands, I usually use gloves when setting things up but when I adjusted the box on the shelf, I did manage to get a fingery smudge on the casework, that rubbed off with a cloth off easily. We test the Eversolo plugged into our reference PMC Cor integrated amplifier and Epos ES14N speakers, as well as more price-compatible kit such as the Arcam A5 amp and KEF LS50 speakers. We play songs from various sources: hi-res files stored on our Naim Uniti Core server and laptop, songs streamed from Tidal Connect, Apple Music, BBC 6 Radio and more.
