About this deal

I am not looking for a chain mortiser, I am looking for the type with a frame to hold the post and the guide bar attachment on the saw to do the mortises.

A clear template and instructions are provided for easy fitting to your bar - just 2 holes drilled using a small drill press and 2 bolts. Alternatively, you can speed the process up by taking the tool to your nearest approved Makita Area Service Agent. If the mortise is not big enough for the saw then I repeat drill out the mortise to depth and then chisel out. It’s curious how people sometimes try to own other people’s work by stuffing them under some label like “hacker” or “gamer” etc. If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.A second lever moves the piece of wood getting mortised up and down so that the mortise can be cut to any width. Poking a hole for a mortise works, but I've found it is cleaner and faster to hog out the hole with a drill or boring machine. Maybe this is normal and my lack of exp is the problem I just thought maybe there was a better chain or something i could be using. Upon inspection, if defective workmanship or materials is the cause, then they will repair or replace it (their choice), free of charge.

So I am just wondering if there is something I am not aware of that will be reliably quicker than a big bit in a drill, followed by chisel and hammer work. The Makita Chain Mortiser is ideal for timber framing and log home building and great for any woodworker needing to cut mortises in timbers or logs. I am currently putting up my own structure - mixture of oak and douglas and used a small chainsaw for cutting/blocking in the mortise and then working with a long steel firmer/paring chisel. Our machinery range includes, lathes, bandsaws, table saws, spindle moulders, planers and thicknessers and pillar drills as well as dust extractors, welders and water pumps. If you wouldn't mind, you should fill out your signature more with your location and other items like what equipment you have.

Makita provides a limited one-year warranty on the Chain Mortiser Model 7104L that guarantees the tool to be of free of defects. They seem to have disappeared from most of the usual outlets, does anyone know of someone still supplying them or have one that is surplus to requirements?

I'm building a timber frame barn and was contemplating cutting all of the joinery by hand (I have a lot of very good quality framing chisels, Japanese saws, etc. Soon after i t s introduction t he a pp arently weak band sa w was developed so as to cut the hard -est w ood of any thickness with accuracy, economy and convenience undreamt of. A small tip to avoid wood tears from the chains upward cutting motion is to score your lines with a chisel first. I know it's not very helpful but don't you have to be a bit careful with the chains on second hands?

It is working ok and i am getting the hang of it a bit but sometimes when im tidying them up I have trouble with the saw wanting to jump around and its hard to keep steady. The 7104L/2 is equipped with a front cover to enclose the cutter chain, pivoting chain bar to enable the user to make 130mm long recangular holes in three cutting processes without having to re-clamp the work piece and single plunge operation. Can anyone tell me if they have purchased one of the used models from Japan and if they had any issues with voltage (Japan is 100v while USA is 110-120v)? This is the ideal tool for small to medium size timber frame companies, while being simple enough to operate for the "do-it-yourself" home builders. However that should be enough as most of my main posts are 175mm and I won't be needing through cuts.
