About this deal

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The first half of the book is pretty much what you’d expect from a sweet YA romance with a touch of mystery. Amy, who has just hit adulthood and left her teen years behind, was recently struck with the unbearable trauma of losing her beloved mother to a tragic car accident.

Published Oct 26th with Beacon Press Limited, The Lighthouse is described as ‘ enchanting, mysterious, and deeply romantic…. Her father, a member of the state police, decides to take Amy with him on an assignment about a missing person to the quaint town if Seabrook. The pair have a chance encounter that brings them very close together and extends Amy’s stay for a little longer and throws them both right in the middle of this lighthouse-obsessed town. She’s never been particularly close to her father Kevin, a police detective, however when Kevin is sent out of town on police business, Amy tags along for a couple of days in the seaside town of Seabrook. This aspect of the book negatively impacted my immersion, however, some people might see it as a positive form of escapism. My daughter had been born a couple of years earlier and so I think that’s where the initial motivation came from, but then I had the idea of incorporating a lighthouse into the story and everything changed from that point.

Amy meets Ryan in the most bizarre way, but its like the universe is pulling the two of them together. He painted his most famous work, Guernica (1937), in response to the Spanish Civil War; the totemic grisaille canvas remains a definitive work of anti-war art.It has consumed all of me in the most wonderful and delightful ways a person could feel (I have never ever used the word delightful so……that speaks volumes), no pun intended……until I decided to leave said pun alone. But I was still passionate about the story I wanted to tell, so I went straight back to page one and started all over again. Had I known what was involved and how long it would take, I’m not sure I would have ever begun, but for some reason I just kept plugging away at it, day after day, week after week, and soon the weeks became months, the months became years, and now, finally, almost a decade after I typed those first words, the novel is finally out in the big wide world. The depth of characters allowed instant connections and allowed me to fall in love with them instantly. If I were the casting director and money was no object, I’d be grabbing Bradley Cooper to play Kevin, Sienna Miller to play his wife, and Lukas Hedges to play Ryan.
