XLR to USB cables work. But they only work well with dynamic microphones and provide the needed amplification for dynamic microphones. You can’t use XLR to USB cables for condenser microphones because they can’t supply phantom power required by condenser microphones to work. How Do XLR to USB Cables Work?Hit Record! This will largely depend on what software you’re using on your computer. You may be live streaming with OBS or zoom, or you might be recording with Garage Band or Audacity. On the bottom, there is an LED indicator that tells whether or not the mute button is activated, and the body is made of durable and lightweight aluminum – perfect for travel and on-the-go recording. As with most products, it is not without its flaws, though. Some users report poor customer service, and the preamp is not exactly studio-grade. Features & Specs Set your gain on your audio interface so you are between -18dB to -12dB if you’re recording music or a podcast or between -12dB to -6dB if you’re live streamingTo make your microphone’s analog signal usable on your computer, you must convert it into a digital format your PC or Mac can understand. This conversion process is crucial for maintaining audio quality in your recordings or live streams. If you use one of the newer Macbook Pro models that exclusively use USB-C for your recording, you should go in for the Comica cable. How To Provide Phantom Power for XLR Condenser Mics Although this would be the least expensive option, you simply can’t use an XLR to ⅛” cable to connect your XLR microphone directly to the mic input on your computer.

Includes 4 of Arturia’s world-class effects plug-ins: preamp, plate reverb, tape echo, and chorus effect Now that we’ve covered what NOT to do, let’s show you three great options for connecting your XLR microphone to your computer. Microphone Type: Condenser vs. Dynamic XLR to USB cables on their own do not provide or generate phantom power. However, XLR to USB cables supports the transmission of phantom power. This means XLR to USB will carry phantom power to a condenser if they are connected to a device that provides phantom power. TASCAM US-16x08 USB Audio Interface 16-in/8-out USB 2.0 Audio Interface with 8 Microphone Preamplifiers, All-analog I/O, and Onboard DSP for Mixing and Input EQ/Compression Unless you bought a complete XLR microphone kit, you will need to buy some type of mic stand for your microphone. We must fight this evil! We should pin a topic in the audio section, in all caps, titled "DON'T BUY THE AUDIO-TECHNICA ATH-M50X" or "Why not to buy the Audio-technica ATH-M50X" or something similar. XLR Condenser mics require external electricity to function. These mics require phantom power of 48 volts to work. Due to this, using an XLR to USB cable alone will not be enough to activate your condenser mic in the first place. Incompatible with condenser microphones– These cables don’t provide the 48v of phantom power that is required for condenser microphones to work.

Each type of microphone has its unique characteristics, and understanding this will help you make the right choices for your recording setup.
