About this deal

I didn't feel judged, exactly. This is a good and nonjudgmental book. I just felt maybe a little unwelcome.

I KNOW EVERYTHING | Kirkus Reviews

That said, their instrumentalist epistemology, according to which our everyday understandings are not indicative of ultimate truths, has a currency today.she knows where to find everything in me and i know where all her stuff is too. she is, in short, my best friend.” For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I have been known. I mean, that's all well and good but is that really what's going on here? Throughout the entire book, again and again, Alderton talks about men and her female friends' boyfriends as if they were mere playthings and distractions whom she sees as obstacles getting in the way of her friendships. She doesn't shy away from the fact that she is quite selfishly vehemently resentful when her best friend Farly gets engaged. Her relationship with Farly is the most highlighted of the book by far, and at times feels so insidiously and unnecessarily possessive that you are left wondering whether indeed Alderton is just severely closeted.

I Know Everything - Novel Updates

Like feeling the sharp sting of a taut rubber band aimed at your sensitive skin.....again and again and again. Strong's 4383: From pros and ops; the front, i.e. The countenance, aspect, appearance, surface; by implication, presence, person. When it comes to the trials and triumphs of becoming an adult, journalist and former Sunday Times columnist Dolly Alderton has seen and tried it all. In her memoir, she vividly recounts falling in love, finding a job, getting drunk, getting dumped, realizing that Ivan from the corner shop might just be the only reliable man in her life, and that absolutely no one can ever compare to her best girlfriends. Everything I Know About Love is about bad dates, good friends and—above all else— realizing that you are enough. None of the characters are what they seem in this novel, and although I was able to actually predict the main twist (any avid readers of psychological thrillers, like myself, will be able to recognize the subtle clues), this did not prevent my enjoyment of the story. It’s interesting to contrast this with the Taoism credited to Laozi. His general epistemology, like Buddhist epistemology, is much more instrumentalist. Rational thought, in the view of Taoist and Buddhist philosophers — like Schopenhauer in the West much later — will not get us to any truths whatsoever. As Laozi is reputed to have written of “the master”: “What he desires is non-desire; what he learns is to unlearn.” The Taoists assume a role in the history of China as social critics of the typically prevailing Confucian worldview(s). The ideas passed on as truths are viewed more as social constructs that divert us from a truer understanding of the underlying unity of the Tao. Such social constructs also work to generate social goals that are vain and foolish. I don't want to be too harsh about this memoir because it's ultimately someone's life and that feels wrong. However my low rating was largely due to the awful, selfish attitude Dolly takes to her friendships. I understand the odd pang of envy when friends are getting married and you're far behind, but Dolly seemed to genuinely wish for her friends lives to go wrong just so their attention could be focused on her. Yet when something does go wrong, she swoops in and describes all the things she said and did because she's such a great friend - it came across as incredibly self-indulgent.

I Know Is That I Know Nothing”: What Did Socrates Mean? “All I Know Is That I Know Nothing”: What Did Socrates Mean?

My favorite part about this book was that it was a perfect blend of thriller and procedural. Procedurals can sometimes feel drawn out, but this one had elements of both procedural and thriller so it was extremely fast-paced. I was seriously hooked right from the beginning and it never once lost my attention. I found this book to be so intriguing because it constantly kept me guessing and there was never an obvious idea of where the story was going to go. ⁣ The storyline is intriguing. What is Randall's past? He's hiding something, and his late-wife may have discovered it. Was she killed because of Randall's past, or was it something she did on her own? And who is this new investigator? He came out of nowhere, yes?

Forget about solving all these crimes; the signal triumph here is (spoiler) the heroine’s survival. Randall has a violent past but knows he didn’t kill his wife. In the midst of his grief, Randall receives a visit from a stranger with information to share about his wife’s death. But there’s a catch: in exchange for the stranger’s information, Randall must reveal dark secrets he’s kept hidden for years. As this hooded figure applies more pressure, Randall begins to doubt himself, clinging desperately to the pieces of his sanity. The reoccurring lists in this book were a real highlight for me. Dolly writes a literal list of what she knows about love at different ages and, my god, if they weren't exactly the lists I would have written at the same times. If they haven't aged and mellowed just like I have. If they haven't sharpened and become less likely to take your bullshit just like I have. They were perfect, truly. everything i know about love’ is a recount of a woman’s life, as she growns up in london, reflecting on her experiences from childhood to her thirties. it’s a deeply personal, honest story, making it such a beautiful and thought provoking look into family & friendship, heartache and identity. throughout i really felt as if i was sitting down with dolly, and she was sharing her stories and life lessons with me. When it comes to science and knowledge, paradoxes function as indications that a logical argument is flawed, or that our way of thinking will produce bad results.
