About this deal

It could have just been an art book showcasing some of the best Batman art around, but it's trying to justify its existence with this 'story', and it ended up making the whole experience feeling like a boring waste of time. In the official promotion for this issue Batman: Dear Detective is described as 'One part prestige art book, one part compelling noir tale', and honestly, I think this might be one of the worst pieces of miss-promotion that DC has ever done.

It's a hard pill to swallow, given all Bruce has sacrificed and what he'll continue to give up for his war on crime. This is a bunch of variant covers Lee Bermejo did for Detective Comics and other titles reprinted into a magazine-sized one-shot that’s accompanied by a couple of pages of letters addressed to Batman by a mysterious someone/something.So don’t go into this expecting your normal comic, because it’s really not your average Batman one-shot.

The bit of story throw in is a fun little puzzle and perfectly paired with the gritty cover art telling the rest of the story. It's a futile mission -- an emotional hydra where heads keep popping back up and multiplying -- so his lifelong mission at the end of the day doesn't matter. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. What happens when a comics art powerhouse meets one of the greatest, most exciting heroes of all time?

Batman: Dear Detective is going to be a divisive comic book because it's neither a true comic book nor an art book, exactly, but tries to land somewhere between the two concepts. Lee Bermejo is an American comic book artist whose published work includes interior illustrations and cover art. He even draws my favorite realistic Batman suit because of how tactical it looks while still feeling like the kind of suit Batman would use to strike and deliver fear into the hearts of Gotham City's underworld. And for whoever came up with the idea of releasing his covers in an oversized format with a somewhat story attached.Mich hatte der Band schon mit dem unfassbar genialen Cover Artwork, das mit Spotlack veredelt wurde. There's a degree of psycho-analysis present that gives the impression this Riddler knows Batman the best. Batman: Dear Detective" is a short one-shot tale of a mysterious stranger writing a "love letter" to Batman.

Lee Bermejo is one of my favorite Batman artists, and certainly one of the most prolific ever to touch the character. Upon reconciling this reveal with these interlocking images, the book reminds Bruce that despite the fight against his villains, Bruce won't ever be able to heal Gotham, or himself. Ultimately, it's a losing battle and a war that the Caped Crusader, despite small battles being won, will never come out on top of.
