The band's ninth studio album was originally issued on 21st April 1992 and featured the hits Friday I'm In Love, High and A Letter To Elise. one has commented on the lack of the B-sides from the original 12" singles Friday I'm In Love and High. On the Wish album I felt much more isolated, like I was making the album on my own, and the others were just playing.I have them myself on CD singles, but still, I don't get why they where excluded while some demos of said tracks were included, There is still enough room on 3 CDs to fit them in.

Wish was also the band's overall highest-charting album, and most commercially successful in the band's career. All formats of Wish will be reissued on 25 November 2022, via UMC/Polydor (the 3CD was originally 7 October). The only drawback to that is onstage it's very confusing sometimes, especially with lots of phasing effects going on.Smith also revealed that the "detuning" of the guitars played a role in the unique "sound" of the album, as did the subliminal overdubs and the extensive use of feedback. This reissue gives Wish the pomp and ceremony it deserves, letting perennial classics like 'Friday I'm In Love' shine anew for lifelong fans and newcomers alike. I’ve toggled back and forth with the 2022 digital and it’s just so much bigger and deeper with clear analog sounds across the soundstage. Then on "A Letter to Elise," there's similar swishing sound during the instrumental break before the last verse.

Wish was the most commercially successful album in the band's career, debuting at number one in the UK and number two in the US, where it sold more than 1. The Spanish pressing is INCREDIBLE and worth seeking out if you truly want to hear this album in all its glory. I haven't experienced a quality control issue as bad as this— perhaps it is my bad luck, or maybe they're just smoking something particularly dank at the pressing plant. I agree with the earlier commenter about the initial beginning surface noise on side a, but it just vanished in the overall mix and punch of things.
