About this deal

The position, which was for a single man, would entail Burns living on a plantation in rustic conditions, as it was unlikely a book keeper would be housed in the plantation's great house.

We hear lots about the boozing and womanizing, but the Batchelor’s club he attended in Tarbolton also had a nightly discussion on ideas from the Scottish enlightenment. It won’t be for everyone but if you like interesting and challenging points of view (and it’s my experience that many devotees of the Bard don’t), which are well written and argued, then this is highly recommended. Tam O' Shanter draws on the Alloway Kirk witch-stories first heard by Burns in his childhood; Mossgiel - Between 1784 and 1786 in a phenomenal burst of creativity Burns wrote some of his most memorable poems including "Holy Willie's Prayer" and "To a Mouse"; Kilmarnock - The famous Kilmarnock edition of "Poems Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect" published in 1786; Edinburgh - Fame and Clarinda (among others) embraced him; and Dumfries - Burns died at age 37.The strong emotional highs and lows associated with many of Burns's poems have led some, such as Burns biographer Robert Crawford, [54] to suggest that he suffered from manic depression—a hypothesis that has been supported by analysis of various samples of his handwriting.

It came complete with easy to read little introductory sections that an ignoramus like myself found extremely useful.

Ian McIntyre produced the wonderful biography of the Scotland's most famous poet to commemorate the 250th anniversary of his death. And he loves the drawings of the wee cowering timourous beastie, the chieftain o the puddin race, and the yowes in the knowes.

The storyline was beautifully written in a rhyming tenor that always captures little ones attention. View Robert Burns in Your Pocket has a clear and accessible biography of Burns and his work, with fifty-two (52) of Burns’ poems and songs, a comprehensive glossary of Scots words, and an index of first lines. He tells her his fantasy of being "the catcher in the rye," a person who catches little children as they are about to fall off of a cliff. The last part of that sentence is trash, it's an attempt to show that maybe I am misinterpreting them like Holden Caulfield misinterpreted Burns. McIntyre also fully evaluates Burns' songs and poetry and brings to light the importance and quality of his satirical verse. The Ellisland farm beside the river Nith, now holds a unique collection of Burns's books, artefacts, and manuscripts and is mostly preserved as when Burns and his young family lived there. David Sillar was one of Burns's closest friends, and had his own poems printed in 1789 in which he included a poem he had been sent by Burns.
