About this deal

A psychological thriller and a half, the opening chapter of which made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and chilled me to my core! A bit of grit always appeals to me in novels- I like to know that the author won’t shy away from anything difficult, and Golding proves herself right away with ripped stitches and an invasive fix made by a doctor who says “tell me to stop if it hurts too much,” and then doesn’t. Her insightful and emotionally challenging books not only stretch reading ability, but give young readers a glimpse into many kinds of lives.

Danny and his second wife had three children, Sunset, Sweetie and Ace, they were very rich and lived in a landed property with three servants, but Danny wasn't really on good terms with Lucy. Her mum is a beautiful ex-model, her dad is a world-famous rock star and her little siblings are celebrities! Destiny and Sunset are beautifully drawn characters, voices from utterly different worlds finding their own identities against the odds. Dark, compelling and terrifyingly relatable, Little Darlings takes every parent’s worst fear and deftly twists it into something even more horrific.

I seem to find little bits from the Hetty Feather series plonked in here and there now when I read some of these books. Sadly, her boss doesn't agree with her and using the police resources is not something he wants to agree on. I enjoyed that each chapter alternated between the two girls' points of view, but the overall pacing was slow and I found it hard to stay engaged. I got little darling as a birthday present a few years ago, and I remember reading it, and thinking how great it was. There is nothing worse than the feeling of not being believed and thank goodness for Detective Harper!Riveting, terrifying and at times heart-breaking, Little Darlings had me tip-toeing through my dark house at night to check on the children. Compulsive, creepy, and inspired by some our darkest fairy tales, Little Darlings will have you checking―and rechecking―your own little ones. Influenced perhaps too much by tales of elves and changelings, Lauren slowly becomes convinced that someone – or something – is trying to replace her babies with their own. Even though the story incorporates the viewpoints of two other characters, Lauren's chapters are written so convincingly that it's difficult not to think that she might just be on to something. I've recommended Gillian Flynn's novels ( Sharp Objects is my favourite) before, but they're my go-to for good dark novels that are as much thriller as psychodrama.
