About this deal
Nesbø’s writing and his character Harry Hole impressed me enough that I binge-read the next ten books in the series and waited impatiently to get my hands on the twelfth book when it came out in 2019.
I also learned that Harry Hole is part of the grand tradition of slightly dysfunctional policemen who fall with embarrassing haste for women they have only just met and know nothing about. He had decided to spend the first days in Australia correcting the pronunciation of his surname so that he wouldn’t be confused with apertures or orifices.
I have heard later books in the series are much better, so maybe I should have started with one of those. Harry Hole (hoo-leh) is a Norwegian police officer in Australia to participate in the investigation of the murder of a Norwegian woman.
Please don't take my opinion as I do have a habit of zoning out on books when I have to focus on too many plots or characters. It's release so far into the series may well have saved Jo Nesbo from sinking unseen beneath the waves before he had even had a chance to get going in Britain. Looking that distribution of the killings on map does not lend anything at first, a mystery it seems. Toowoomba goes on to describe the way forced assimilation has caused all manner of social problems for Indigenous people who have lost their community and their way of being.
