About this deal

Arrow Video opens the puzzle box one more time to unleash Hellraiser again on Blu-ray as it was previously released as part of the Scarlet Box Trilogy and a SteelBook that ween OOP very quickly. In 1987, Liverpudlian author turned film maker Barker unleashed Hellraiser on a very unsuspecting public, a public weaned at that time on generic slasher films populated with wise-cracking antagonists who did little but satisfy the repressed bloodlust of its mostly teenage audience. The DTS surround mix is quite good - especially in the last act when everything literally goes to hell - but that 2. That too has been quietly fixed with this release, the far left of the screen previously that showed part of the set now shifted and removed…another Arrow quiet admission to a framing issue that for years they denied ever was?

Hellraiser Trilogy Box Set Blu-ray - Arrow Films UK

The surround track has a bit more bass to it, but doesn’t offer an enormous upgrade in terms of dynamics or spatial activity. It's the same BD-50 disc as before, only this time it's housed in a standard clear plastic case with reversible artwork. With Bloodline, only a comparison to an aging region A Mill Creek multi-film pack was available and this new 4K restoration is light years ahead of that and the image here shares many of the inherent qualities of the first three films – first-generation footage looks astoundingly sharp and detailed, sometime showing the sets to be a little too rickety and cheap looking; colours are deep and rich, while grain is handled nicely throughout (the 18 th century scenes lit mostly by candlelight have the heaviest grain field here but it looks natural and even, with no clumping, freezing or blocking noted). presentation is fairly front heavy, though music in various spots -- for instance in chapter four -- does make for a nice, spacious, immersive experience. Quite a bit of grain in this image, though it’s appealing and feels inherent to the film’s handmade, low-budget aesthetic. Introducing the world to the iconic Pinhead and his sadistic band of Cenobites, Hellraiser became an instant genre classic upon release and remains one of the most frighteningly original visions in horror.

Blu-ray Review: Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Gets New Arrow Blu-ray Review: Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Gets New Arrow

In his feature-length debut as a director, Clive Barker follows a family that’s splintered by its subterranean desires.

The music has a very dark ambient feel that infuses the film with a heavy Gothic atmosphere which makes it look like a much bigger production. And yet, the film doesn’t just take big swings, it takes massive ones and there’s still enough of that original vision here to be applauded. Picking up immediately after the events of the original Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II finds Kirsty detained at a psychiatric institute and under the care of Dr. Elvira, Horrorland’s hostess with the mostest, finally busts out on Arrow Video Blu-ray on 3rd December 2018 with this long-awaited, positively-bursting-at-the-seams special edition of her big screen debut, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark! Commentary with Clive Barker - in this archival commentary Clive Barker discusses in great detail the shooting of various sequences, the costumes/masks and special effects (and why some of them did not work as intended), some of the film's Hitchockian qualities, Pinhead's popularity, how the film has aged, etc.

Watch and Wear Promo:(SD 5:25) To access this goofy bit, select "Special Features" and scroll right to highlight "Original EPK" and then scroll right again and the promo begins on its own.Frankly, when I first reviewed this disc I let my enthusiasm get the better of me with a full 5/5 score. Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth sees Pinhead set loose on the sinful streets of New York City to create chaos with a fresh cadre of Cenobitic kin. Here presented in brand new 2k restorations, Arrow Films is proud to present the first three instalments in one of the most fiercely original horror franchises of all time.

Hellraiser: Quartet of Torment 4K Blu-ray Review | AVForums

the clear winner between the two, but not enough, necessarily, to push potential viewers away if this is the only disc available. Director Tony Randel papers over the script issues with a dark and twisted fantasy mindset to give this film its own identity, yet at the same time, he injects a playful sensibility to it, making it the best blend of horror, fantasy and fun of all the films in the franchise. And into this morass of stagnating blood and guts came Barker’s bizarre creation, itself a Frankenstein of unlimited imagination and horribly suffocating production restrictions, a film that at once showcased a first-time film maker and an author (the film is based on one of his novellas, The Hellbound Heart) whose worlds far exceeded anything in horror or dark fantasy before and arguably since. In 1987, author Clive Barker made his directorial debut with “Hellraiser,” adapting his own novella, “The Hellbound Heart,” looking to bring his own brutal sensibility to the screen.
