About this deal

As it settled unto my skin I noticed the powdery iris and musk peak through which made it a more comforting scent. I’m a bit confused as to what you meant when you said, “I just read what is the difference between the fragrances? A great reference scent added to my collection and I am happy to finally be an owner of this underrated gem. Hermes today — with a few exceptions like the Elixir (which was not done by Jean-Claude Ellena and which really reflects that, imo) is all about lighter, more airy, and luminously…. The new Fracas comes in either eau de parfum or pure parfum/extrait concentrations, and, like the original, comes in a jet-black, opaque bottle with a black top and a pink-framed label.

I think it is only very recently that there has been such a large subset of perfumes focused around smelling effortless, barely there, and transparent. It is possible that the high "creaminess" in the old version blurs all other notes; if it's true, the lower creaminess in the new version allow to appreciate better the jasmine, the violet, the bergamot still present in the scent. Cellier, then one of the only women working as a "nose" in formal perfumery, dedicated it to actress Edwige Feuillère, who had been the object of scandal when she appeared nude in the 1935 film Lucrezia Borgia. You are overwhelmed by this soft insistence that never confronts you or makes it known that you are giving in to it.I think our body chemistry is such that it can turn the most masculine of scents into something “feminine” on occasion — especially with those richer or spicier perfumes that have warmth at their base with things like vanilla, tonka bean, amber or sandalwood. In the history of perfume, there are a few that rise, like the most effervescent of top notes, to a higher plane than any others. After the most recent reformulation 1998, Fracas was sold exclusively at Saks and Neiman’s until about 2000 when became available online on perfume sites.

I think people should wear whatever they want because I don’t think scent is inherently gendered beyond what notes we box into gender categories. I prefer it perhaps to Serge Lutens’ modern take on Tuberose (Tubereuse Criminelle, I did a review of it) but I’m not crazy about either one, truth be told. The first effect of the scent brings forth notes of hyacinth, mandarin, green notes, zesty bergamot, and orange blossom. Two different bottles were produced by " Alfin/Orinter" : a transparent bottle (1985-1990) and an opaque black one (1990-1995). Ferris, I absolutely love your open-mindedness towards scents, as well as your surprising love for white florals. You might want to read some of my posts on the EU/IFRA situation to learn more about the way the industry has been handling this or about the specific issues involved. As a lover of white floral perfumes, I have long wanted to try the grande dame of tuberose scents – Piguet’s Fracas. Robert Piguet was a talented fashion designer, who at the top of Parisian fashion in the 30s and 40s, captured the imagination of many, with his elegant and alluring designs. Top notes smells pink, Heart notes smells red and green and Base notes smells crimson shade (deep red purple).
