About this deal

This is a service that we offer when you purchase your worktop from us, which is available as part of our wood worktop cutting service. If you look at cutting boards and other stuff like that, the real reason decades ago they were put together the way they were was to combat the whole cupping and expansion and contraction issues. Traditional thinking would deem that the laminated wood strips would be your best defense against twisting and cupping. I would in general dissuade you from trying to make something like this from common plywoods which have glue joints of questionable durability.

Am I Ok to to leave it at that or should I put matt varnish over the top (would prefer not too as it looks icky. Otherwise, I'd just go with a regular hardwood (like maple) and coat it with mineral oil or salad bowl finish. com, you can choose from a range of timber species to pick one that will match your work surface, for a truly elegant finish. So a good coat of oil-based polyurethane (not thin, no pinholes or missed spots, paying particular attention to cut edges) will provide quite reliable long-term waterproofing. Thanks for that woodyoulike - there is only 1 small patch around each tap - like you say - not surprising really! There is a wide array of plastic angled drainers on the market, and they come in a variety of styles and sizes. In this top view the Kohler product is already missing the lower LH radius and there are about 10 different places where the strips are starting to delaminate. The grooves didn’t drain all the water and water would collect around the seal with the upstand and inbetween the grooves. I just read this thread over again and see I was thinking cutting board but the OP was asking about a drain board.Having a means to keep itself in place and draining over the edge of the basin courtesy of the hooks at the front. The two elements can be used separately – to cater for double the capacity – or together – for an all-in-one drainage unit. Some of our partners may process your data as a part of their legitimate business interest without asking for consent. Wood is surprisingly durable in solid form and even untreated softwoods should give you years of service, although of course you should expect staining.

Each of our maple cutting boards are cut from a single piece of wood, which means there are no glue seams. As I noted in reply 5, the Kohler laminated cutting board is always falling apart so I decided to make one from solid walnut. If you decide to go with raw linseed, get GOOD quality stuff, not the cheapest, and warm it up to 60 deg C, brush it on and keep it warm with a heat gun (don't overheat) it will penetrate more. None of these cutting boards have been put into the dishwasher and none have been subjected to excessive exposure to water. I suggest you do laminate the boards and try to orient the grain to minimize expansion/contraction issues. Expansion across the way has been surprisingly non existent (mitred corners are still nice and tight).
