About this deal

It’s also worth noting that this set is Freesat HD-compatible, in case you’d like to access programming through a satellite dish instead of a standard aerial connection.

If price-related sacrifices are to be made, better they’re made here than down in the sections covering picture quality. And sure enough, while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the way the UE43RU7020 is put together nor the materials from which it’s made, Samsung hasn’t exactly gone to town with the design of this TV.While inevitably for its money it’s not without its limitations, the UE43AU7100 delivers an impressively balanced, consistent and immersive picture. Another bargain here at Electronic World TV, your home of cheap tvs and cheap tvs around the country! For a size of TV that is all too often overlooked, we’re delighted to see that Samsung has served up a stunner for the average household with the modestly priced and brilliantly performing UE43RU7470 range. We slot a 4K HDR edition of Life Of Pi into our reference Blu-ray player to enjoy the colour and warmth of Ang Lee’s adaptation of Yann Martel’s novel. Our first impression is that Samsung has done a decent job with the Samsung UE43RU7470, focusing on a more subtle and sensible picture performance than trying to wow viewers with punchy big hits.

There are rival TVs, too, that can deliver both native 4K and upscaled HD images with more raw sharpness and apparent detail than the UE43AU7100. Again, though, the level of sharpness the UE43AU7100 adopts feels carefully chosen to deliver an organic, immersive image rather than an actual weakness of either the LCD panel or the Crystal Processor. Like the RU7300, the RU7100 has 'Pure Colour' rather than 'Dynamic Crystal Colour' – how significant that is will only become clear once we get the samples in for review. While there is no built-in voice assistant – sorry, Bixby – you can pair the TV with one of the best Google Home speakers or best Alexa speakers, since the set is compatible with both. You can also enjoy AppleTV and iTunes on the TV, thanks to Samsung's exclusive apps. Samsung RU7100: Remote control

When more than ‘and cheerful’ follows ‘cheap’

We were slightly disappointed with the colours of the Q900R, so hopefully Samsung has also made the Q950R closer to the Q90R in that regard. If it has, this could be an 8K set to crave. Viewing scenes from Creed II, the RU7100 delivered fairly good color quality, especially bright colors. Watching a training montage set in the desert, I was pleased to see blue skies and colorful objects offered up accurate, vivid hues. The RU7020’s 3840 x 2160 resolution is governed by Samsung’s UHD processor and, in general, it does a pretty decent job of employing all those pixels when the source material is of a lower resolution. As one of Samsung's most affordable 4K TVs, the RU7100 offers full 3840 x 2160 resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate and decent picture quality.

You get almost every worry line and wrinkle of Michael Douglas’s retired Dr Pym, thanks to the very able Samsung UHD processor working away at making up 75 per cent of every frame to turn the Full HD image into a 4K approximation. Even in scenes of high movement, there’s very little smearing and that’s no mean feat. Mirror your phone onto the big screen and enjoy your content in all its glory. Every process is lightening fast on this truly special TV thanks to a powerful quad core processor, making this UE43RU7100KXXUa joy to use. The big differences between the Q85R and the Q90R is the lowering of peak brightness from 2000nits to 1500nits, and a reduction in the number of dimming zones. Samsung hasn't confirmed numbers for the latter, but the reduction is likely to be significant: we believe the Q85R has only around a fifth of the zones of the Q90R, undeniably affects contrast. The UE43AU7100 is built on a Vertical Alignmenttype of LCD panel, with edge LED lighting and a native 4K resolution. It supports the HDR10, HLG and HDR10+ flavours of high dynamic range, but as ever with Samsung, Dolby Vision is not on the menu. Ambient mode boosts the midrange at the expense of some detail and dynamics, but also pushes the soundstage out further and adds a more immersive and arguably more cinematic feel. It’s also the best setting for listening to music.

Imagine a small, affordable TV with two modest full-range drivers and a total of 20W of power. Hasn’t exactly got your hopes up, has it?

Every 2019 Samsung TV will run on the same, custom-made operating system. On the surface this is just an evolution of the existing Samsung OS, but that doesn't seem a problem when you consider how fully featured and intuitive the user-experience is already. What's more, there are some neat additions, from enhanced modes for gaming, more options for the turn-your-TV-into-an-art-display Ambient mode, and the addition of iTunes Movies and its peerless selection of 4K HDR films. For both SDR and HDR source material, we used a minimal amount of Samsung’s motion processing technology. It’s not as artful as what Sony can do with its sets and, while a light touch can remove the worst of the judder, if you take the processing levels up beyond two or three notches, image quality will start to suffer.

Thank you for your reservation.

If you’ve been hunting for a fairly affordable 43-inch 4K TV, you know you’re not exactly spoiled for choice – and if you want one from a brand with a bit of recent profile and traction, your selection is narrowed down even further. In terms of pure measurements, the set is 56.3 x 97.0 x 5.8 cm without the stand and weighs 9.5kg. With the stand, you’re looking at 64.8 x 97.0 x 34.4 cm and 12.1kg. It’s Wi-Fi enabled and comes with Samsung’s handy little premium One Remote as well as the standard issue controller. At this price, we’re not expecting any cutting-edge features or functionality. But it’s safe to say the UE43AU7100 is more than adequately specified. Lag times were also among the best we've seen, measuring just 12.9 milliseconds, according to our Leo Bodnar input lag tester. That makes the Samsung RU7100 one of the most responsive sets we've seen all year, and a top choice for gaming. Samsung RU7100 review: Audio
