About this deal

The mystery itself is believable and when we learn the truth about the deaths, we see that the motives behind everything make sense. Note: All written content is my original creation and copyrighted to me, but the graphics and images were linked from other sites and belong to them. Kinsey takes the case and almost immediately discovers that there was a lot more going on in the case than the police and prosecutors revealed at the time of the trial.

Grafton worked for the next 15 years writing screenplays for television movies, including Sex and the Single Parent; Mark, I Love You; and Nurse. One might wonder why Nikki got only eight years for a premeditated murder, but this is never explained. A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton is a gripping mystery novel featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone. While the book was acceptable/average in terms of its overall plot, development, and color, my enjoyment of the novel came from the fact that until the last half of the book (when the protagonist - a female detective - sleeps with a man she is investigating) I hadn't realized that the main character was a woman. They divided their time between Santa Barbara, California, and Louisville, Kentucky; [5] Humphrey taught at universities in both cities.Laurence Fife seems to have made a fair amount of enemies, but none of the charactes are stereotypical and the author is careful to avoid you having people you are unable to care about. I don’t really have a problem with her being slightly unlikable, since interest and intrigue keeps me turning the pages, and she does exhibit both qualities rather nicely. Now Millhone knows that she’s on the right path and she continues to pursue some of the leads she’s uncovered. I know that I'll have to read over 20 books to get up to date with her but, based on this one, it will not be a chore. He’d been married and divorced once before and though another attorney had handled his case, his impact was evident.

And despite the fact that Kinsey drives around in her '68 VW 'Bug' and has terrible dietary habits (or maybe BECAUSE of those things), I find that I still really like her character. It also appeared as a separate pamphlet given to attendees at Malice Domestic 2011 conference, where Grafton was recognized for Lifetime Achievement. A lot of skimming is necessary when reading about the characteristics of a rooftop or which streets she passed while jogging. In California, as in many states, the only grounds for divorce are irreconcilable differences or incurable insanity, which eliminates the trumped-up adultery charges that were the mainstay of divorce attorneys and private eyes in the old days. But, hey, maybe the author wanted to inspire us to get off our fat asses, put down the book, and run for no reason.

Divorced and eager to help solve crimes for the underdog, even if she doesn't go to those cases intentionally, her thorough skills show a mystery where the clues are solved by actual logical work and not just nifty clue falling into her lap like most mysteries do. I'd have liked to have a follow-up and longer ending that shows the after-effects, especially Nikki learning what really went down that fateful night years ago, but oh well.I listened to the audiobook of A Is For Alibi by Sue Grafton, narrated by Mary Peiffer and published by Books on Tape via OverDrive.
