About this deal

Self levelling with some flexibility. Best used as for a spray-applied isolation coat. Two parts of GAC 500 mixed with one part High Flow Medium produces a good spraying, fast-drying isolation coat. Useful to hard-edge painters to seal masking tape for cleaner edges. Apply over masking tape. Let dry before applying additional paint layer. GAC 700 And there we have it. The who, what, why and how of Matt Clay versus Matt Paste, and I hope you can figure out the where for yourself! If you have been balancing on the fence, unsure of which way to go, I dearly hope we have cleared up the right route for you. If not… it’s just become more economical to try both. Golden Clear Granular Gel, when wet, looks like rice pudding and feels very rough and gritty, as it’s full of little plastic shards. This makes it hard to handle, control and scratch into. Its opacity when wet, makes it hard to judge value, as it dries almost completely clear. Expect a massive colour shift if you’re combining it with acrylic colour. A light spritz of hairspray will give you the reinforcement you need if you feel as though the hold from label.m matt paste isn’t quite what you need.

Having said this, I do think the product is versatile enough to lend itself to more defined styles as well thanks to the waxy ingredients.

The shape and structure the Label.m Matte Paste gives to the hair can be quite durable. For shorter styles it can last through most activities, but of course, it gets a bit greasy the more it needs to be reworked. Since the paste gives quite a lightweight hold, you might still find your hair falling apart throughout the day. Dries to a hard, stiff film, making it useful for priming canvases if stiffness is required. It can be used as a rabbit skin glue alternative. GAC 500 I did find that hold lasted for most of the working day but started to flop forward toward the 4hr mark with some strays and flyaways rearing their heads as well.

The Label. M Matt Paste 120ml is a versatile styling product that provides long-lasting control, texture, and definition to all hair types. First released in 2005, it has become a popular choice among men and women alike. I found it quite hard to achieve decent strings after mixing the tar gel with fluid acrylic, and I found the working time was very short, before it started being too gloopy to make long strings. However, when used neat, it was very easy to control and create strings, loops and other effects. This may be because it needs to mixed and left to sit overnight. These drips that were unmixed, see the swatch on the right, were completely clear and levelled out quite a lot, as well as being un-absorbent on the surface. It may be a little weaker than what you’d expect from a hair paste and definitely weaker than a hair clay.

Tar and Levelling Gel

But in tandem with this new potential for trialling, what better time for an in-depth look at what really does separate the two; Matt Clay, and Matt Paste. What may seem like just a difference in texture, or hold, presents a more complex explanation. Consider yourself a normal haired bloke? Well, I’m afraid I can’t direct you one way or another, you’ll have to stay with me a short while longer before we can find a definitive answer. This versatile styling product can be used in various scenarios such as at work, during workouts or social events that require sophisticated looks; it's perfect for both formal and casual occasions! About Label.m Reduces crazing and is useful for pouring. Dries with good film flexibility but a slight haze on the surface. Can be used to make an acrylic adhere better to chalky surfaces. GAC 900

Label.m Matt Paste produces a low-shine finish that’s best suited to messier and more textured hairstyles. You don’t need to use much of it with each use, however. So, although you don’t get much for your money in terms of volume, a tub (either 50ml or 120ml) does last pretty long. After finally getting round to spending a couple of weeks trying it out, I’ve put together a detailed run-through of what I found below. Both label.m Matt Paste and label.m Deconstructor produce a very similar texture and low-shine finish. However, you can expect a slightly stronger hold from the Deconstructor. But, there is one more consideration, and that is experimentation! Neither will act the same on wet hair, damp hair, nor with a hairdryer in use to help with styling. A word to the wise, use this tool on hair with product already in it, rather than attempting to tame fluffy hair. The word ‘fluffy’ is not one I typically like to ascribe to my appearance! Doing a wash of colour over a thin layer of beads seems just as effective as mixing a transparent colour in.
