If you register your Hoover the Guarantee covers the battery for one year, all other parts are guaranteed for ten years, but they will only be replaced for free in the first year, except for parts subject to fair wear and tear. So essentially after the first year if the battery fails you will need to replace it yourself, parts like the pre-filter you would be expected to replace, but other parts should be covered for free replacement although you have to pay for labour. The HF500 anti-twist is the upgraded version of the powerful H-Free 500 model. It has better suction power, charges 58% faster and offers a 20% longer run time. It also features a unique anti-twist floorhead, which prevents hairs from wrapping around the roller. As someone with long hair, I know how hard it is to remove tangled hair from a brush!

Above the buttons is a simple screen with icons showing what mode you’re in (carpet or hard-floor) and whether Turbo is engaged. The rest of the display shows the number of minutes of cleaning left on the device before the battery runs out. If the vacuum is plugged in, it will display the percentage of charge the battery has available instead. After testing out the HF500 Anti Twist Pets in my bedroom (where most of my hair accumulates) I can confirm that the amount of hair in the floorhead was much, much less than when using my corded vacuum! What’s the battery life like? What you won’t have to do on a regular basis, however, is clean the roller bar. The vacuum has an anti-tangle mechanism that stops hair from getting wrapped around the roller and it works well. I cleaned all around the vanity stations of my long-haired family members and didn’t find a single strand of hair caught around the roller, so I’d put this down as a big success for Hoover’s system.Of course, the proof of the pudding is in the cleaning, so to speak. We tested the HF500 with our usual suite of challenging tests, spilling both flour and Cheerios on both carpet and hard floor, then measuring how much the vacuum collects on a single pass. I also thought that the spare filter and attachment bag that comes with the HOOVER HF500Anti-Twist is a really nice touch and helps to keep everything in one place. This Hoover is so light! Once I had put it together I was so surprised, this is the most lightweight vacuum I have ever used. We live in a three storey house and it’s no fun lugging a heavy vacuum up two flights of stairs so this is brilliant for us. It’s compact size also makes storing it easy too. It stands upright on it’s own, you can make it shorter to go in a cupboard or it also comes with a wall mount so you can hang it up. How does it work?

You know that meme that says “you know you’re getting old when you’re excited about a new vacuum cleaner” well I guess that makes me old because I was so excited when it arrived! I was actually surprised by how compact the box was and the 45 minute run time on the front caught my eye straight away because there is nothing worse than being half way through the vacuuming and it’s battery going. Out of the box The other consideration is that using 'Boost' mode on this vacuum means that battery life goes down to 12 minutes. It's a useful mode to have and one that I enjoy using in especially hair-prone areas, but make sure not to have it turned to 'Boost' all of the time if you're conscious of using up the battery. Care and maintenance The new model boasts an anti twist floorhead which is meant to stop hairs getting tangled in the brush. As someone who has super long hair (and seems to lose an awful lot of it!) this is a game changer.The Hoover HF500 Anti-Twist is the successor to the H-Free 500 and is part of Hoover Direct’s cordless range. It has upgraded suction power, 20% longer run time and a new “anti twist” floorhead which prevents hairs from wrapping around the roller. This is a feature that my husband was particularly excited about as he is always cursing my long hairs being all over the place including wrapped around the vacuum roller! The HF500 Anti-Twist has an improved run time over the previous models, despite an increase in power! Now you can clean for even longer between charges! The HF500’s turbo mode now lasts 25% longer. Fast charging The main attachment has an LED light bar which is the sort of design feature you don’t realise you need until you try it. When vacuuming in low light it is really helpful for showing where the dust or dirt is and making sure you don't miss a patch. Self Standing In addition to hair tangle prevention, the new floorhead also has a window to the roller which pops open for instant access and then the roller can be pulled out with ease making it easy to clean and maintain. The lightweight design makes it easy to clean stairs, furniture and even cobwebs. The battery in my previous cordless made the vacuum much heavier so it hurt my wrists to support it, but it’s not an issue with this design which has a small battery and lightweight design at 2.2kg or 1.7kg in handheld mode. How does it work?

What it doesn’t have is a fluffy roller for hard floor cleaning. You can switch off the rotating brush bar if you’re working on delicate floors, but you can’t switch it out for an alternative.
