Wedding Piñata is a delightful twist on the traditional piñata game, incorporating wedding-themed elements. Hang a piñata in the shape of a wedding cake or a bride and groom figurine. In this icebreaker, kids create a personal timeline by drawing significant events from their lives, such as birthdays, vacations, or achievements. Students draw objects that represent these events to help decorate their personal timelines. Kids can also include things that they love in their timelines, such as their favorite sport, favorite animal or favorite food. Children form a circle and reach out to hold hands with two different people across the circle, creating a “human knot.” They then have to find a way to untangle themselves, encouraging communication, cooperation, and problem-solving. I love to incorporate simple movement into my group activities, and this is an easy way to do it. This activity is similar to musical chairs but with a twist. I arrange the chairs in a circle (full disclosure: I usually just leave them as they are around my group table & have the kids push them out a little bit to make space to walk), and I tape feeling posters or words onto each chair.In this activity, kids take turns sharing three statements about themselves, with two being true and one being false. The others then guess which one is the lie, helping children learn more about each other and strengthening communication. A tip: if multiple students are writing answers at the same time, make a point to know what color marker they’re using, or monitor closely to see who writes what. Unfortunately, I’ve had some concerning statements written before, and it was a lot of work studying handwriting to determine who wrote it!
