About this deal

The Fujifilm XP140 tough camera features a new processor, updated design and improved durability while maintaining a compact and lightweight body with a variety of automatic shooting functions. Operation is pretty responsive. Squeeze the on/of button and the rear LCD blinks into life in a second or so, which is a respectable showing for this class of camera. A half squeeze of the shutter release and a central AF box illuminates in green with an added beep of affirmation to reassure the user that critical focus has been achieved (subject to the effects of camera shake/hand wobble at the point of actually fully squeezing the trigger, of course). The earlier XP130 could shoot a one-second ten frame burst of full resolution high quality JPEGs. The XP140 specifications say that’s reduced to a maximum 6 frames at 10fps, however I managed an 8-frame burst which you can see above. You can also shoot indefinitely at a lower rate of 3fps. The XP140 continuous shooting is a little better than the COOLPIX W150’s short 5fps burst, but if it’s fast, reliable continuous shooting in a rugged compact you’re looking for, the TOUGH TG-6 is what you want.

Here’s the angle of view you get with the Finepix XP140 at its maximum 28mm wide angle setting. It’s a little bit wider than the 30mm COOLPIX W150 and not quite as wide as the 25mm TOUGH TG-6. I tried the earlier XP130 attached to my surfboard, but the angle of view wasn’t wide enough to fit me in and interestingly Fujifilm has dropped Action camera mode on the new model. That said, it’s plenty wide enough for group shots and small interiors. It can now go even deeper than before, to an impressive 25 metres, while other improvements include a new scene recognition mode, which should make it better able to assess what it’s photographing, and 4K video recording (albeit at 15fps). The Fujifilm X-S20 offers a sleek and compact design, making it the perfect companion for on-the-go photography. The X-T5, on the other hand, boasts a robust weather-resistant build and advanced imaging capabilities for exceptional performance in challenging environments. The Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2S cater to both photo and video enthusiasts, showcasing high-speed performance, stunning image resolution, and cinema-quality video capabilities that redefine the standards for mirrorless cameras in today's market. Capture your adventure: the best-selling Fujifilm XP series evolves further with the launch of the new XP140.Bluetooth pairing and wireless LAN connectivity with smart devices for automatic photo transfer and Instax printing Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body. CALS - Take pictures at size and image quality settings suitable for submission under Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism guidelines. A slightly odd addition! Red-eye Reduction Auto, Red-eye Reduction & Forced Flash, Suppressed Flash, Red-eye Reduction & Slow Synchro. The camera can be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth, or directly to a Fujifilm Instax instant printer enabling you to directly print instant photos from the camera.

When shooting a white surface from a distance of 1.5m, the Fujifilm FinePix XP140's flash produces noticeable vignetting with the lens at maximum wide angle, though fall-off is much less severe when you use longer focal lengths. Standards IEEE 802.11b / g / n (standard wireless protocol) Access mode Infrastructure Encryption WEP / WPA / WPA 2 mixed mode Overall though, a slightly better than expected showing from this otherwise unassuming digital camera. Though the lime green of our review sample is either love-it-or-hate-it (though will no doubt prove popular with younger members of the family), it does mark this product out as a bit of fun as much as anything else, while the value added pricing won't have users expecting the earth of it (while also making it affordable enough to tempt casual smartphone shooters to a dedicated device). Waterproof and dustproof protection standards of products, stipulated by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission)Do this and a 'Fine' quality setting Large JPEG – the top setting – image is committed to memory in an instant. Unsurprisingly given the price tag here, the alternative (or even addition) of Raw file capture is not an option. Should the user want to shoot continuous bursts, the options here are at 3fps, 5fps or top tier 10fps.

The XP140 camera feels very robustly built and solid, and the finger grip on the front works well to give you a reassuring hold on the camera. Everything is very ergonomic although those with larger hands may find the buttons fiddly, especially zoom in/out buttons. Where the XP140 really delivers is at the telephoto end of the zoom range. With a 5x range of 28-140mm it has one of the longest zooms of any waterproof camera and will get you a fair bit closer to the action than the 100mm TOUGH TG-6 or the 90mm COOLPIX W150. But don’t expect to be filling the frame from vast distances, you’ll still need to be within shouting distance of your subject to get a good shot. Scene recognition does a good job guessing the scene in front of it, and it’s good to see machine learning being used even in relatively basic models like this. Among our most popular models are the Fujifilm X-S20, Fujifilm X-T5, Fujifilm X-H2, and Fujifilm X-H2S– each providing unique benefits and features suited to a variety of shooting situations and creative pursuits.Though we found there was some loss of definition at the very edges of frame when shooting at maximum 28mm equivalent wide angle setting and some loss of highlight detail (and visibility of pixel fringing) under particularly bright conditions (where an manual option is to simply dial the exposure compensation down), under most circumstances we found the images from the Fujifilm XP140 to be rather better than we expected from a camera of this ilk.

So, in offering a responsive performance, decent images, intuitive use, plus good value for money, if you don't need a bunch of bells and whistles or 4K shooting at a more 'standard' 30fps, and just want something that can take pictures in otherwise challenging conditions for a regular camera or smartphone, the Fujifilm FinePix XP140 comes up trumps as one of the better toughened options out there right now for the cash-strapped. With improved Scene Recognition Auto mode, the XP140 detects a main subject and shooting scene and automatically optimises the camera settings. The Eye Detection feature helps to capture portraits by automatically focusing on the eyes of the person. A variety of self-timer mode helps capture instant moments by automatically releasing the shutter when it detects a smiling face or just a person’s face. The camera also features 17 variations of Advanced Filters including the new “Rich & Fine” and “Monochrome (NIR)”, which you can make selection through the new live-view user interface. The camera doesn't offer a touch screen but the menu is fairly simple to navigate. The D-pad also offers shortcuts to access flash, exposure compensation, and self timer settings. You can also personalise the left (fn) button to perform one of a variety of tasks. Everything's very ergonomically laid out to make things as easy as possible if you're shooting underwater. The Fujifilm XP140 is the latest incarnation in Fujifilm's XP line of tough cameras. The XP130 was released only last year, but despite this the XP140 offers a number of improvements on the previous model:As regards what is different this time around, when compared to previous generations of Fuji toughened cameras, the straight answer is not that much, save for the headline that, by being waterproof down to 25 metres, that's 125% better than the previous XP130 model. Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy. Video output - Digital interface Micro USB 2.0 High-speed HDMI output HDMI Micro connector (Type D) All of the sample images in this review were taken using the 16 megapixel JPEG setting, which gives an average image size of around
