About this deal

Occult rituals, parasites, paranormal encounters and cold hard revenge are just a few themes to be expected. Often, the book is better than my detailed nit-picking would indicate, so please contact me if you have any concerns or questions on the condition of a book. Along the riverside footpath, the trees were mostly ash, alder and wych elm, their leaves a pale, almost translucent green, trembling in the faint breeze. When Simon Serrailler was a rookie constable with the Met, he did something reckless in the course of a night's work which caused a man's death.

It's a really nice psychedelic piece that adds to the atmosphere very nicely, it comes into its own in the scenes of the cult indoctrinating Edwige Fenech's character into their circle; this scene is one of the best that Martino ever directed, it's pure 70's psychedelic delirium. It’s a setup that leaves scant room for law enforcement officers or for Kyle Westergaard, the 12-year-old paperboy damaged since birth by fetal alcohol syndrome, who’s walked away from the wreck with a prize all too many people would kill for. I'm not convinced it's his best necessarily, and perhaps it sometimes promises more than it actually delivers. It’s not an easy read in so much as there’s some graphic descriptions of events and the narrative is very sad. If I hadn't read most of the others in this long series I really wouldn't have bothered to finish it.He wasn’t twisting at the end of the rope, they way corpses do in movies, but hanging heavy and silent as a rock from the taut yellow clothesline, which had almost buried itself in the livid skin of his neck, now an inch or two longer than it had originally been. A gay man from the local theatre scene is found hanging from a tree which is immediately treated as a inexplicably tragic suicide. Billy's a dodgy accountant for politician and racketeer Pink Harrison, who is about to come unstuck. Their knives and forks were tightly wrapped with in serviettes and bound with a strip of blue paper. I'm not particularly keen on private eyes, and I probably wouldn't have bought the book if I had known it was part of a detective series, even if it is a detective series in which the detective is dealing with aliens.

Heavner isn’t exactly mollified when Tempe, aided by retired police detective Skinny Slidell and a host of experts, puts a name to the dead man. Robinson does an interesting take on the small town police force clashes with secret service storyline, with a lot of new ground, in my opinion. I have read all of the books in this series (this being the 18th), and while I enjoyed parts of it, I felt increasingly dissatisfied as book progressed. DI Annie Cabott soon discovers he is Mark Hardcastle, the well-liked and successful set designer for the Eastvale Theatres current production of Othello. Dirty Dick' Burgess does the equivalent of a 'cameo' if you are a novel character, but it's really small this time.

Into Keldale's pastoral web of old houses and older secrets comes Scotland Yard Inspector Thomas Lynley, the eighth earl of Asherton. The Security Services will be interested when one of their own – even if nominally retired – is murdered. A beautiful June day in the Yorkshire Dales, and a group of children are spending the last of their half-term freedom swimming in the river near Hindswell Woods. Ultimately Richard, along with the police, are able to discover that Barbara is behind the Black Masses.
