About this deal

On 5 November 1977 Jane married Chemical Engineer Martin Clarke, whose work took them to Mexico, Brazil, the United States, Wales and the Netherlands. Notice to Internet Explorer users Server security: Please note Internet Explorer users with versions 9 and 10 now need to enable TLS 1.

We havwe been receiving our storybook subscription for around 18 months and I can't see us stopping anytime soon.My first impression was of the bright and beautiful neon Leon finding a welcoming place in the world with a ton of fun reader interaction.

There were plenty of rejections before my first picture book came out in 2001, but since then I have had lots more published. After 17 years in the UK, Britta now lives and works in Berlin with her Scottish husband and their son Vincent. Then, forever starving, Ben had found that ruddy berry gleaming like amber in a patch of green, and had snaffled it. The London years 76/77 were financially sponsored by Mick Jagger and Rolling Stones and Neon Leon's band had lots of money to spend while they did concerts with blues-rock and reggae songs. Jane Clarke (Author) Jane is the author of over 70 books for young children, including the award-winning Gilbert the Great series and Stuck in the Mud.The earlier rejected song was used in a TV spot for Doctor Peppers concerts in the Park and Neon Leons record label got deals with all KROQ stations in USA about this spot. Although it is worth noting that the book is aimed at the younger end of the market and older children, even some 5 year olds, may consider the story babyish). Neon Leon left USA 1981 for Holland and to cooperate with the popular artist Herman Brood but the artists drug problems ruined the rehearsals and Neon Leon got tired.

The title track is simply irresistible, laying down the filthy scuzz guitar tone dreams are made of, in one of the ‘most potent anthems of NYC punk’ ever caught on tape, right up there with “Max’s Kansas City” by Jayne County, and headed straight into your pleasure receptors. I personally do not recommend the book the story-time as is, because the original text narrative promotes segregation- but most likely not on purpose. In this delightful interactive book, filled with vibrant neon artwork, children can help Leon on his journey by counting his steps, sending him to sleep and giving him lots of reassurance when he's feeling down. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. The print is framed by hand in Cambridgeshire in the UK, using only European sourced PEFC™ and FSC approved woods. The band had some underground success but had difficulties because of several things such as that Neon Leon was a black rocker who wanted to follow his own musical ideas and not to do things as was common among other New York artists and groups.

When we stopped, we looked at the color Leon had landed on and talked about whether he blended in or stood out. However, the book has great potential for a group story-time due to it's large, bright illustrations, reader interaction (saying things as a group in various volumes of voices to Leon when prompted), color identification, and counting opportunities, as well as if the reader has the ability to re-tell the story in context as a chameleon trying to survive rather than attempting to fit in with his "friends" who make him feel sad for permanently being neon orange/pink. He left Europe for Jamaica some time and changed his artist name to King Lion and was even more inspired by reggae than before, later going back to Europe and some club hits from France to Scandinavia. It has been an delight to collaborate with Britta Teckentrup in bringing prints to life from her collection of interactive picture books: Neon Leon, Leap Frog and Firefly Home. I thought, maybe I have an older copy and the color has changed over time, but the cover on Goodreads is, if anything, more pink than the one in my hands.

Before writing over 70 kids’ books, Jane was an archaeologist, which explains her enthusiasm for dinos (the stars in many of her books) and her penchant for collecting fossil shark teeth!
