About this deal

Acqua di Giò Absolu Instinct was released in 2019 right after a year of Acqua di Giò Absolu. As the name says, these two fragrances have a lot in common. The lovers and "experts" were massively disappointed, the current generation (especially the girls) likes it very much - what do I think about the "absolute" of the Armani fresh-food permanent burner ? The combination of sea notes and seaweed will remind you of the sea. It gets much saltier in the middle. Invictus Aqua (2018) is a flanker of Invictus but it has the most similarities with Acqua di Gio Absolu. It is a legend and always will be in my eyes. If you have already sniffed it, you know what I am talking about. It is a great deal with the price that it is offering.

Is it my favorite scent? Nope, but it is one that I could see myself wearing sometimes, even if it’s not really my style of cologne. Armani did a great job with this one and men in their 20s will probably really like wearing Absolu. Rasasi is known for producing colognes with a touch of the Middle East. And Havas is no different; it is airy, sweet, and has a desert-like feeling. In 2018, Giorgio Armani released Acqua di Gio Absolu to be another flanker of Acqua di Gio. However, with the creation of Alberto Morillas, it became more than a flanker. The aquatic note goes well with rosemary. It provides the herb the cologne needs to balance out all the woody and citrusy mixture. The versatility for Absolu is perhaps its biggest selling point. While it seems like it’d be one strictly for the summertime, it can actually fit in during any time of the year. So, guys who are looking for an all purpose scent, should give this one consideration.

Overall, do I like Acqua di Gio Absolu? Yes, I do. I get the similarities with something like Invictus Aqua, but it’s so much better than that, and doesn’t have the same level of synthetic smelling ingredients. IWhen I first saw it on my brother’s study table, it immediately got caught in my eyes. And the smell does not disappoint you with this beautiful presentation. It’s not really a mature scent, but not one that would only appeal to teenagers or college guys. I’m not sure that I’d wear this one on a formal occasion, but it would fit for everything else, no problem. Skews younger, but a cologne that can get a lot of use for that demographic.

The opening is really good citric, in my nose a touch more mandarin/orange than lemon. Honestly I find the opening of Absolu Instinct the best of all AdG perfumes. I just wish these citrus fruits would last longer, longer than 5 minutes aren't in it. Armani didn’t even attempt an Acqua di Giò flanker until Essenza in 2012 – 16 year after the pillar’s birth (with the 2011 Acqua di Life Limited Edition following almost the exact same composition as the original). Since then, another four variants have orbited around the principle of intensifying constituent accords of their parent. The newest, Acqua di Giò Absolu Instinct, follows the same codes as its siblings but reinterprets the sea note in an altogether more Creed-like style. If you like Creed, keep reading!

Key Notes of Acqua di Giò Absolu Instinct

It’s closest comparisons are that Invictus, Profondo, the original AdG, and I guess Absolu Instinct (but I haven’t tried that out). Well then... with distance and the necessary openness: it bears the name, it fills the usual bottle and yet it is not.

Whatever. However, this new fragrance is also far removed from its predecessors such as Essenza or Profuma in both class and olfactory terms. Olfactory because the new fragrances no longer have beautiful herbs, such as basil, sage or rosemary, which gave the fragrances a great note and which came across particularly well with summer fragrances. Now the new fragrances are just more or less cheap looking, almost meaningless main streamers, which you already had a thousand times under your nose, where actually all Armanis are main streamers (except for the Privé fragrances), but that doesn't have to be bad in itself. Well, whatever. We have at least one huge rosemary bush standing in the garden here, so if I want to use this scent, I'll go rubbing myself against the bush (and the neighbours will surely think of me as a strange pervert who stands on trees and such (technical term: dendrophilie and no, don't ask me how I know the expression! D), but hey, at least this would be such an opportunity again to shout "This is not what it looks like"! :DD). The fragrance opens with a bright zesty punch of Italian fruits, effortlessly combined with marine notes for a fresh, oceanic hint. A spicy undercurrent runs through the heart of the scent, lending a hint of intrigue and depth. From the first spritz to the dry-down, it maintains a consistent narrative, moving smoothly from the opening citrus notes to the earthy base of ebony, creating a journey that is both engaging and enduring. Whether I recommend a test, well... you have to know that for yourself. Actually, I would rather say no and prefer to reach for Essenza or Profumo instead. But on the other hand some of you might like this one a lot, so, yes test :D Aromatic colognes are meant to be weak when it comes to projection. But Acqua di Gio Absolu has a great start when it comes to its sillage because of its woody tones. It ends quite moderately. If you compare it with other aromatic colognes, it works better than them.Absolu really has that ambery sort of smell throughout, I know the labdanum is playing a big part of that, but I wonder if one of the wood notes is amber wood? I haven’t seen it listed, but I do think so. It is a harsher aroma versus the more naturalistic amber notes out there. Nevertheless, the fragrance has a lot to offer, at least for fans of fancy synthetics: a distinctive blend of sweetish citric, soft aquatic, aromatic spice and a little wood in a fairly linear flow. Yes, it has something ... but not for me ;-) Nevertheless, there's no denying that the fragrance smells quite good after about 2.5 hours, and after another one I'd even give it a 7.5 because it becomes milder, softer and more harmonious. But while it already starts to recede from half arm length to very close, this Armani says goodbye after 5 hours at the latest even on my most durable shirt into projection-off (that's why the currently relatively high H+S values of the community of up to 7.5 are a mystery to me).
