About this deal

Looking for a measurement of the C205 I found the link in the first post of this thread and I was very disappointed to find out that the C205 has a worse directivity than the C25. The waveguide acts as physical protection for the tweeter, but its real purpose is to ensure that at the crossover frequency, the off-axis dispersion of the tweeter is similar to that of the off-axis dispersion of the bass/midrange driver. All measurements are reference to tweeter axis with the grill removed. Frequency resolution is 0.7 Hz (yes, less than 1 Hz) and plots are at 20 points/octave. Spatial 3-D resolution is 1 degree. The M106 also has a 6.5" aluminum-cone mid/woofer with a cast aluminum frame; the cone is ribbed to eliminate resonances and to optimize its pistonic behavior. The speaker's rear-firing port has identical flares at both ends to minimize dynamic compression and port-generated noise.

When approaching your local dealer for a listen it is essential that you discuss a home demo. Take your time; the M16s will grow on you and could prove to be indispensable. I can imagine many people spending years of sonic bliss with these speakers and being ever so grateful that they had the patience to run them in. Find the correct isolation and stands and begin to build a system around them. Although the unusual shape of the Revel Performa3 M105 has many acoustic advantages, it does have the disadvantage that it decreases the volume of the cabinet over a standard rectangular cabinet of the same width and depth, which in turn limits the low-frequency extension of the driver Revel is using, so that this same driver, in a cabinet of larger volume, would have more bass extension. The real party piece of the M16 can be found higher up the frequency response though. It is impossible to separate the activities of the tweeter and the waveguide as you can’t turn one off and listen to the other in isolation but the net result is that the M16 has a truly fabulous top end. The Naim equipment that I habitually use doesn’t place a huge emphasis on the idea of soundstage. It works on delivering a stereo image that the speakers can then attempt to render three dimensional. This works for me in a review sense because it allows you to discover when a speaker really excels and this the case here. With a slight toe-in applied, the Revel simply vanishes into a wholly convincing sonic space that has both appreciable width and depth to it. Something like Air’s Talkie Walkie which is all about these sonic spaces is a genuinely invigorating listen as a result. Testing out my set-top box through the SA20’s optical port proved that the DAC’s keen forward edge works well with helping dialogue cut through raucous film scores. Given the bit of roll off in high frequencies, don't go putting absorbers everywhere, especially the thin ones.Although the Revel M105s can be shelf- or wall-mounted, they’re designed to be used on stands, specifically the Performa3 ‘M’ stands, which are 635mm high and intended for use with the M105 and M106 designs, the M106 being a slightly larger version of the M105 with a slightly larger (165mm) bass/midrange driver. We must admit to being unsure what the ‘M’ stands for in the M105s’ model number, but only a few seconds after we’d started playing music through them, we would certainly have placed serious money on it standing for ‘Monitor’, because these small standmounters would have to be one of the most accurate, most revealing loudspeaker designs we have ever heard. If we were monitoring music in a recording studio and wanted to hear exactly the sound that had been captured, these Revel Performa3 M105s would be our tools of choice. fs will drop, qts and vas changes also, as I say I’m not saying it’s night and day, but physical parameters do change, it doesn’t take long, (I say 100hrs as a long time, as by that point it’s 100% not going to change until it gets to end of life or something perishes or breaks…) and anything will have happened that will Thanks to those connectivity options, the CDS50’s 32-bit/192kHz ESS DAC can also be as used as a standalone DAC/outboard converter for other sources.

High frequency response is supported by 1 inch aluminum dome tweeters that were derived from Revel's Performa3 series. Low/Mid range frequency response is supported by 6.5 Aluminum cone woofers featuring low-distortion motor-structures for greater clarity and accuracy with improved sensitivity and output capability. Deja vu over and over again and again ad infinitum. Speaker break in has been thoroughly covered multiple times in this forum and uncountable times in other forums. Speaker marketers appear to be the primary source of the audible speaker break in theory whereas speaker engineers say slight changes from break in can be measured but are not audibly noticeable. Harman marketing folks wanted to promote audible speaker break in until Toole and Olive set up a blind test that showed no audibly noticeable change from speaker break in. This was documented in an earlier ASR post quoting Toole: That "strange" treble of the 530 that you didn't like is what hooked me, just something magical about if for me. It gave me a taste of that original sin that had me hooked on good audio long ago. I am all for a big dose of accuracy and love measurements but in the end it better still have enough magic left for me to actually love music on it.The low end is incredible with these speakers, but what about the high end? The higher mid range is accurate and clear, though I found when listening to other units around that price point, the separation between the tweeter and woofer was not as obvious. Revel’s engineers created a “low-resonance” tweeter, effectively meaning the crossover is lower. This is great for accurate mids between the tweeter and woofer, but the frequencies above 18,000hz tend to be overshadowed by the lower range. This resulted in a slightly boxy less-open sound, but still accurate. From those 3 I found the Revel and Focal having more bass while the Dali was more in the high frequencies and behind in the bass.
