About this deal

Once you own such a radio, all you need to do is turn it on and let it search the available radio stations so you can choose and listen to your preferred programme. This maturing of the Mini range is a great, if subtle, success. Its body is gloriously smooth to the touch and no longer feels – or looks – particularly cheap. It’s still not going to challenge the Evoke series on style, but if that’s a big turn-off that’s something you can tell just from a picture or two. We think the Tineco Pure One S12 is a brilliant cordless vacuum cleaner. It’s particularly effective for cleaning carpets, where the powerful brush bar does a great job at agitating carpet fibres to remove more dirt and hair. We also love the LED screen and automatic suction mode. The upside is that the iLoop smart suction system works with all tools and accessories, not just the main floorhead. The Dyson V11’s automatic system only works with the primary floor head and mini motorised tool. For cleaning awkward areas, the mini tool is also brilliant at pulling out both long and short hairs. Price & Value for Money

The Flue One's power controls are all within easy reach while riding, and the display is easy to read in shade or sunlight (Image credit: Future) Stable reception: Bluetooth radios with DAB+ technology offer stable quality, even if reception is weak, while FM radios often come with static noise. The sound signature blasts away the slightly nasal sound that small kitchentop radios can suffer from, but be sure to keep your expectations sensible. There’s just a single 3in driver to deal out tunes and spoken word broadcasts, and it does sound conspicuously small when compared to larger systems, or Pure’s bigger Elite models. It won’t replace your hi-fi, or even a mini system, but let it do its job on home turf and it’s great – in the kitchen, bedroom or conservatory the One Classic Series II offers a solid compromise between price, size and sound quality.

Difference between DAB, DAB+

We’re going to be talking a lot about how the Tineco compares to Dyson cordless vacuums in this review, as the Pure One S12 is similarly priced to the Dyson V10. The V10 doesn’t have a built-in screen – you need to pay more for the V11 to get this feature – so this is an area where we think the Tineco is a clear winner. This gadget allows you to listen to CDs and also receive DAB+ radio stations to give you a better choice of music and radio stations. Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. Bear in mind though that the volume and scale of sound are necessarily limited. It performs very well given its form factor, but you’re expecting too much if you want it to fill a room with lush sound or power a party. It asserts its presence in the mid-range – there’s not masses of refined high-end detail (which the DAB signal often doesn’t supply anyway) or much of a low-end bassy thump. A mini power brush is included with the Tineco. This is similar to Dyson’s mini motorised tool, as it’s a small tool with a powered brush bar for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and car interiors. It’s also great for removing pet hair.

The Pure One S12 comes with a single primary floorhead for all surfaces. This has a direct-drive brush bar, which is able to stir up carpets to remove more dirt and dust. There are also LED headlights to help you see hidden dust and dirt, which is a useful feature.

Premium sound on the fly and on the road - with Pure!

Using the Pure is straightforward. To get the one up-and-running, it’s a case of powering up the radio (mains or battery), extending the eight-section aerial, then switching on. The display shows “Pure One”, and the radio starts scanning for channels (a progress bar shows progress of scanning). For us, this took under a minute. The One is then loaded with all available DAB stations, and listening can begin.

Once the 0.6-litre bin is full, which will be more regularly than on with the Dyson V11’s 0.9-litre bin, you can empty it by pressing the button underneath to open the flap. For ease, the entire bin can be removed, but even so, I had to shake it hard to empty it and ended up with a bit of dust on the floor. Should I buy the Tineco Pure One S12? The relative paucity of what’s on offer here also helps to keep the interface dead simple – and means the basic 2-line display is perfectly adequate. Pure’s connected units use more advanced AMOLED screens, but the monochrome display here is perfectly clear. The reduced, clear design with its compact measurements conceals lavish sound technology combined with ridiculously easy handling, allowing you to use your internet radio in your living room, your Bluetooth radio in the kitchen, and your very compact radio in the bathroom, while the radio alarm is ideal for the bedroom and the portable radio provides you with sound all around - in your own outdoors space or on the road. No cable required: Your favourite tunes wherever you want them A tap on the Listen Later button brings up a menu, where you set the time, recording duration, the frequency (once only, daily, all week days, weekends only and once a week) and the station to record. If you have a programme you listen to all the time – the Archers, or Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone perhaps – this will come in very handy, but it’s very constrained compared with what the old Pure Evoke 3 offers. That top-end model features a card slot, letting you archive recordings rather than just wipe them instantly. If we have a small complaint, it’s that the edge cleaning on carpets isn’t perfect. We’ve seen much worse though! Hard Floors If you live in a large house, the Tineco Pure ONE S12 is suitable for you because it has 2 batteries, which gives you double the battery life and that might be enough for your entire house. It allows you to replace the drained battery with a fully charged one, so that you can clean without interruptions. Pure’s DAB+ radio with CD player is a device that can receive the digital DAB+ format and is also able to play CDs. It looks like a normal CD player but has the added functionality of a DAB+ radio. Presets: The Pure One has 30 radio station presets, which can be used for storing either DAB or FM stations as required.

The Pure One supports Intellitext, for on-demand access to broadcast scrolling text information from radio stations, as well as textSCAN for better control of radio text. Pure Evoke Play is a portable, battery-powered music system that will happily accompany you all day long: From your al-fresco breakfast to a picnic in the park or a barbecue on the sports field - you can use anything from a DAB radio or FM receiver to Spotify Connect or Bluetooth Speaker for your smartphone to prove that the best playlists are yours. And even if they aren’t, the Pure Evoke Play, our compact sound marvel, will play along anyway. It's a quirk that takes a little getting used to (at first we found ourselves accidentally shifting up two power settings at once, thinking our first press hadn't registered) but you'll come to expect it. You'll have to because there are no gears, and powering 17.5kg of bicycle uphill under your own steam is hard work. If you have heavy shedding pets, you might be disappointed with the dust bin of the Tineco Pure ONE S12 because it is a bit small with a capacity of 0.6L. If you don’t want to empty the bin frequently, you might want to look at the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute, which a capacity of 0.76L.And as if that was not enough, DAB/DAB+ devices are substantially more energy efficient while also offering much more variety in terms of stations (radio programmes) than classic FM receivers. Plus, DAB/DAB+ can receive data such as song title, album, artist, album cover images or even videos in addition to sound and music. The difference between the standard S12 and S12 Plus is what’s included in the box. Both vacuums have the same design, but the S12 Plus comes with an additional soft roller floorhead that’s brilliant for hard floors. It also comes with several other non-motorised accessories. Upgraded the firmware on a Siesta Mi and a Siesta to permit a DAB+ upgrade. I've upgraded these before so had no problem with the actual process, although it can be a bit fiddly. Unlike the last Pure radio we tested, the Pure One Flow, this box offers some basic equalisation settings too with customisable bass and treble levels. We found the standard setting adequate, but if you listen exclusively to spoken word stations like BBC Radio 4, you may want to turn the bass down a tad as it can make some people sound a tad muffled.
