About this deal

Of course, when it comes to the mysterious question about the life of a vampire (as well as whether or not it’s supposedly “false” and “empty” as Lady Veronica puts it), no two answers are the same; they’re as different as two snowflakes (meaning the well-known snowflake analogy, to be precise). Ivy Vega is an 8th grader. She is your UBER Goth type. She also has the ability to give anyone the "squinty eye," and get them do what she wants. Definitions of family are pretty open in this book. As the whole confusing situation comes to light, differences are embraced and celebrated. Perhaps it’s a little too neat and tidy, but I still like the example that’s set—the people who love the people you love are pretty much family. Scariness Ivy eventually reveals to Olivia that she's a vampire (along with most of the other goths in Franklin Grove). Like any good twin book, Ivy and Olivia routinely switch places. They never get caught and there are rarely negative consequences. Secrets are a main theme, and the big one (the existence of vampires) is one that must be kept—even from Olivia’s parents and best friends—for many reasons. But most of the more normal secrets are kept for a blessedly short period of time, and there are few, if any, negative consequences to telling the truth and coming clean with your family and friends. Recommendation

At another point, Lady Veronica, one of the vampires, seems to have a change of heart (which is shown when her eyes suddenly look more human than vampire for once), and admits something she views as important to Sarah and Tim: “But there is a little part of me, of all of us, that keeps a memory of human life, and knows that this life, the vampire life, is false, is empty...” (p. 180) Once the girls start talking, they realize they have the same birthday, birth town, adoption drop off date, and the same emerald ring. They aren’t just twins. They are identical twins, sort of. Despite that Olivia is a cheerleader in love with pink, and Ivy is a pale goth fanatic, they both become best friends. This book is called "My sister is a vampire" and it's written by Sienna Mercer. Sienna Mercer is Canadian. She writes book for children. This book is fiction but could be realistic fiction. The story could also be mystery because it's a sequel so every end of the books are mysterious so it makes you want to read the rest of the books. Sienna Mercer is the queen of Intermediate or tween books, in my opinion. Even as a young adult and reading her books as a young adult makes me have so much respect for her because her works captivate me with awe and excitement. That even if this was meant for a younger audience I enjoy it in the eyes of one (and it also helps that I'm a child-at-heart). I also read this in the level of a tween so that I can recommend my future students to read it.

What is My Sister the Vampire series about?

Twin girls separated at the age of one year old find one another at school. One is a Goth/Vampire; the other is a Pink/Bunny cheerleader ("Bunny" being what the vampires in these stories call non-vampires.) Despite their extreme differences in self-expression, they feel an immediate love and appreciation for one another, even before they realize they are twin sisters.

The kids break down into groups, as you tend to do, but there’s a lot of overlap. Olivia is a cheerleader and simply being a cheerleader is never looked down on. The main female antagonist is also a cheerleader and she’s a fairly typical mean girl, but Olivia helps mitigate the idea that all cheerleaders and popular girls are awful. Ivy is a goth, and overall the book portrays this group sympathetically. But our main male antagonists come from this group. They’re also fairly stereotypical idiotic trouble makers, but it’s interesting that Ivy has to look out for them to some extent because they’re part of her group. Olivia’s best friend is a geek, but she’s completely welcomed into the group of friends and her unique points of view are often useful and validated. Olivia’s boyfriend is a movie star (don’t ask), but underneath it all he’s a pretty normal kid (I guess that’s its own stereotype, but it still fits into the “don’t judge a book by its cover” mentality of the series.). Honesty And how were the kids, Aunt Clara?” asked Dad when they were all inside again and had finished the preliminary hugs. “I’m sorry we were gone so long!” Secrets and Spies– There’s always a lot of stuff to keep hidden in Franklin Grove (like, um, the fact that vampires exist), but suddenly everyone seems to have gone into secrecy overdrive! Ivy’s sure that new girl Maya is up to something, and it involves Ivy’s boyfriend, Brendan. Twin sister Olivia wants to help her get to the bottom of it, but first she has to work out what’s up with their stepmom. She’s behaving like a zombie-which is super weird for a vampire. But it was entertaining and I didn't want to rip the book to shreds, so that's pretty good in my opinion.

Aunt Clara also reveals she has taken up exercising using aerobics during her time recovering at the hospital with a physical therapist: Okay. I'll start with the wedding. So the last thing I remember from this series was the upcoming wedding plans for Charles Vega and Lillian. I even stated in my review of the 12th book that I expected this book to be the plot that circles around the wedding. Unfortunately it isn't. The wedding was barely mentioned actually. There weren't details about the planning, decorations, cake, dress, drama, tears, etc. But it was nice to know some facts about it. I guess if Ms. Mercer did focus on the wedding as the plot for this book it wouldn't be as much as a My Sister The Vampire book. So it was okay that the wedding plot plan that I had in my head didn't happen. I understood.
