About this deal

When I Smile is a stunning picture book with beautiful imagery and bright colours along with child-like friendly drawings that bring a playful aspect to the story. His word speaks about kindness, and in this little book Elize Hibbert gives practical examples of what that means in our modern lives – practising ‘kindfulness’ instead of mindfulness can be surprisingly hard, but immensely worthwhile! We tried Pig the Pug to encourage sharing, but he just quotes Pig as he gathers his toys to keep his little brother from touching any of them. Whether it's sharing a toy or doing good listening – or just a thoughtful gift wrapped with extra care – we think a dozen tiny acts of kindness at Christmas help set the tone for a caring and compassionate year ahead. There was a Malala children’s book that made me cry and I think it’s the example of courage and deep caring for others?

Written about a time when automobiles were rare but the lifelong friendship of these three girls and the strength in families is wonderful. So we finally made it through all forty with the exception of one board book I couldn’t get in my library system. I am currently editing my first YA novel which I hope to be able to share with you all in the future. When you’re looking for children’s books about being kind, make sure to include stories that inspire kids to see the good in others. This adorable story about a little girl taking care of her unwell father is one that encourages empathy in little ones.My oldest still loves when I read picture books out loud, but she also devours chapter books any chance she gets. Perfect to share with young children to develop empathy and understanding (or to recognise their own situation). Introducing the concept of mental wellbeing, this picture book helps children to recognise and understand difficult emotions. Help put your child in another person’s shoes with these picture books that inspire compassion: whether that’s towards animals, friends, or people in very different situations to your own.

My 18 month old loves doing things that make Happy Bear happy again like singing him a song or giving him a kiss.It was a lovely family project to do together – Kate drew all the pictures herself and her 7 year old sister helped colour them in.
