So when I speak of,” beyond the landscape”, I am referring to your own landscape, or more simply, “it is whatever you imagine. I was drawn to the different sizes of logs and tree cuts he uses to print from and how much detail he encapsulates into the result. Its engagement is to understand his place in this world in this time, which he has to participate as a record of his connection to it.

However, I felt that the book itself was too small, and cramped the prints which deserved much more space on the page, and some of the prints lost clarity because of the paper. If there is, indeed, nothing lovelier than a tree, Connecticut-based artist Bryan Nash Gill shows us why. Although Gill began his art career in glassblowing, ceramics and landscape drawing, he gradually turned to sculpture. He was a fellow of the California Arts Council and twice received grants from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.

I send a LOT of snail mail, several letters a day, so I have a large collection of cards and these are in my Top 3 for certain. I am experimenting with creating tools using nature to draw and paint with and even though Bryan hasn’t made the tool here, it is still a natural material applying paint to the paper surface. Also featured are Gill's series of printed lumber and offcuts, such as burls, branches, knots, and scrubs.

Some of his other sculptures include Twins (2000), a bronze cast of two conjoined saplings, and Blow Down (2002), a skinned and flattened spruce tree mounted on a wall.

I needed a drawing space separate from my sculpting space so I designed a drawing studio upstairs and the sculpture studio on the ground floor. Cleaning the space in preparation for a new work doesn’t exist anymore, which had always been the case in my smaller studios. A Baren made of Hornbeam, (also known as Ironwood) and a Bamboo disc baren made with a Bamboo leaf and a recycled record player dust cleaner. He was profiled in Martha Stewart Living in 2012 and was the focus of a documentary video produced by the magazine.
