About this deal

Former financier Daniel Szor used to spend weekends in the Cotswolds, and while contemplating a field of golden barley waving in the breeze, he was suddenly inspired. A clean fresh palate with pine spice from the juniper is followed by fresh grapefruit and coriander seed. A unique botanical mix of Cotswolds lavender and bay leaf, grapefruit, lime, black pepper and cardamom seed are added for distillation before finishing with naturally refined Cotswolds water.

Having found a derelict site near his house, he set about building a distillery and a team to run it, and the doors of the Cotswolds Distillery opened in July 2014.The first bottling to leave the distillery was the Dry Gin , in 2014, with the Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky following just three years later. Brand Info: It all started back in 2014, when their founder Dan, a native New Yorker and whisky connoisseur, had moved to the Cotswolds after working in finance in London for many years. To this a botanical mix of Cotswolds lavender and bay leaf, fresh grapefruit and lime peel, black pepper and cardamom are then distilled in their Holstein still, which is then cut with Cotswold water to 46% vol.

Palate Opening with grapefruit, fresh juniper and black pepper, followed by herbaceous notes of bay leaf, coriander and angelica.

Seeking to leave behind that world and spend more time in the picturesque countryside of the Cotswolds with his family, it eventually dawned on him that he could combine his love of whisky with his desire to start a new business. A unique botanical mix of Cotswolds lavender, bay leaf, grapefruit, lime, black pepper and cardamom seed are then added to a tailor-made hybrid Holstein still for distillation.

To bring it down to bottling strength, a robust 46% ABV, they use naturally refined Cotswolds water. Tough work, but totally worth it for the vibrant flavours and rich mouthfeel that make Cotswold Gin stand out from the crowd. They mention that it is the most flavoursome gine they have ever experienced, with a class by itself. That high oil content comes into play on the mouthfeel too and at 46%, it’s smooth enough to sip neat. The second month was dedicated to playing around with London Dry Gin recipes, each containing 5 – 15 botanicals.
