I do reject the notion that there are “right” choices a lot of the time – an occasional criticism of the game – because I can see how numerous card abilities could be “best” in a particular set of circumstances. We’ve found it provides manageable bonuses without forcing the attention away from the core mechanics. So, you know, turns out I’m not the greatest arbiter of big trends in board gaming, though I keep hoping the next year will be trick-taking’s big year. It’s such a disappointment to me, because there’s so much design legwork packed into branching strategies that never you never get explored because you just don’t get enough time for them to bloom.

Yes keeps attentions BUT… I cant even go to the bathroom or get a snack without halting the game for 2 minutes. Crafting your die is, obviously, essential in the game, but spending too much time on crafting and not enough on acquiring the Heroic Feat cards can set a player back so careful balance is required.Dice Forge does to dice what Dominion did to decks of cards: create a themeless euro game out of fiddling with components.

The symbols are so horrible and make little sense unless you played a few times but by then you have uses but all the replay value. It also lets you focus on the Heroic Feat that lets you roll one die six times, rather than the one that lets you roll both dice twice.

Along with their colored pieces, players receive a hero inventory board during setup along with several colored cubes to track the gathering of gold, along with sun shards, moon shards, and coveted glory points. Each player is given a player board and player cubes for tracking resources, a light die, a dark die and a player pawn. The more I played Dice Forge, the more I realized that this light strategy game keeps players really engaged. If "Auto-advancement" is disabled, you will be prompted to allocate Gold earned to either the Hammer or your inventory. I’m being coy here, not taking a side because I’d rather let the review help a reader self-select their interest.

An amazing package in terms of the quality of the components but advise you open and set up the game for the first use before you put it on the table, it will save a lot of time and avoid anyone getting bored. Played a few games this last week with my family (Wife + 2 9yr olds) and we all really enjoyed how simple it was to get going from never playing before but by halfway through the first game we were already getting the tactical depths of planning to win whilst frustrating the rest. In addition to different modules, you can also choose just to use the new heroic feat cards and leave the modules out.And that’s just not as exciting to me as the options you find in probably it’s closest analogue, Mystic Vale.
