About this deal

Whether real or imagined, I’m not sure - but it doesn’t really matter because in my head the SQ has improved and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Finally, Allo changed the clocks to the latest from NDK (ultralow jitter SDA) that have lower phase noise than the previous generations. What we have here is something that was not designed to sound good, but to sound as best as possible (on Raspberry PI), and this is not yet another case of over-engineering: they made clear design choices which my listening impressions confirm to be correct. I received a surprise package in the mail a bit more than a month ago, all the way from Mumbai, India. I’m just found a hidef picture of the card and i can now clearly see the 2 separation of grounding on each part of the Si8641 Digital Isolators.

It sounded better and more pleasant than the Breeze, but it was all almost at the same level of better. We recommend Shanti Ultra low noise dual linear PSU for your DigiOne, and above you get it at a discount. They also added a supercap on the “clean side” so most of the electrons come from the onboard “buffer”. If you like the comfort and versatility of streaming your music via Raspberry Pi, but your appetite for a slightly cleaner digital source grew past it, Allo DigiOne might be just the thing you need. The Allo DigiOne Signature is a networked S/PDIF converter built on top of Raspberry Pi single board computer. So, it seems that the difference is more notable on the clean side and you can really just use a cheap SMPS for the Raspberry Pi side. The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network.

With this additional space, Allo used the best decoupling capacitors (film) on every major component of the sound card (clocks, buffers, flip flops). I was worried about audio quality degradation with this approach but I figured that as long both have the exact same signal path it would be a valid test for comparison reasons. With files >= 320 Kbps, it produces the crispest, most transparent sound when compared to CD and analog sources. There are so much going on in the background on any Windows, MAC or Linux full desktop operating system that has absolutely nothing to do with processing music. PiCorePlayer (LMS) can be configured to act as both a player and LMS server and LMS supports Deezer.Qobuz also have 'beta' support for DLNA in their native desktop app, although last time I tried it with HiFiBerryOS it didn't play ball, not sure if it works better with Ropieee XL.

A more essential A/B is how the Allo DigiOne-loaded Raspberry Pi compares to its Just Boom equivalent. The idea is to feed the DigiOne its own high-quality power source and keep it separate from the Raspberry Pi (that generates some electrical noise by itself and one of the main reasons we don’t just plug an external DAC into the Raspberry Pi USB ports). It enables you to do all you did before with less/smaller hardware, more efficiently with more flexibility, and even opens up options you have never even considered before.

As the jitter is picked up by all elements of the system and is difficult to erase at the cost of further signal inaccuracies, this feature makes the DigiOne a perfect choice for a high-fidelity digital player. Une façon élégante et économique d'enterrer la polémique sur la dégradation de la qualité sonore si on passe par l'usb. So I noticed that Allo do DIGIONE SIGNATURE PLAYER which is apparently fully configured and they claim is “plug and play”. So I’d suspect the USB (USBridge) would be preferable, as the asynchronous USB Audio protocol should work better than the source-clocked S/PDIF you get with the DigiOne, but the difference, if any, is probably not important.

Sometimes I also feel that doing extreme or minute tweaks steals from the experience of just listening and getting lost in it. I have not a/b'ed using the Coax of Gustard vs using Coax of Zen directly (as this would be the only most viable usecase to do a comparison as there is no usb out to DAC via the DDC) , however the Gustard did bring a big improvement when using the coax of Zen to DAC vs i2S via the DDC. They recommend that you use the included power supply for the dirty side and a battery pack for the clean side to get the best sound. It is therefore very easy to browse through your audio files, change playback options or volume from anywhere, as long as a network connection exists. To me, the DigiOne (or DigiOne Player, if you look for a complete player) are the best choice possible as of now if you own an S/PDIF DAC, or if you know for sure that the implementation of S/PDIF receiver in your DAC is superior than the USB side. I currently have a Allo digione player (with Nirvana), will the signature version give significantly better sound quality. They use so little power that you can leave them switched on all the time and be ready and waiting for your command. Although that would require you to stream directly to it from a phone or laptop (via AirPlay / Bluetooth / DLNA / RAAT / Spotify Connect / LMS Squeezebox protocol etc.
