This cookbook is not only great for anime nerds, but anyone looking to cook popular Japanese dishes. The book is nice enough and there are quite a few different recipes but there is a fair bit of missing information in them. There’s occasionally a little bit of humor, information on the dish, or what extra bits of inspiration was behind the particular recipe featured.I loved the inclusion of quotes from the shows, and I very much appreciated that each recipe gave not only a list of ingredients but was also clear on the equipment you would need to use. A typical example, based on the Tokyo Ghoul series, begins, “In an alternate Tokyo, ghouls live secretly in society and survive on the flesh of humans,” before describing the comforting power of the stewed meat and potato dish, nikujaga , which is served at one point to an ailing character.

It not only gives you cute easy recipes, but a short history of the dishes, and a list of Animes to watch. Pokémon, one of the most popular video game franchises of all time, has a cookbook totally devoted to it.

Usukuchi: A light-colored soy sauce that is actually saltier in taste than the darker version, used only for cooking. So instead of reading it front to back I just went back and forth between things until I had read them all.
