My wife wanted a new machine to replace a vintage hand-operated model she has, and this electric machine has been a revelation. The machine only does straight and zigzag stitches of various styles, buttonholes and embroidered effects for topstitching. The machine is not noisy in operation, and my wife finds that she is becoming much more confident even though she has so far only done a couple of projects. Furthermore the good range of sewing features make it an affordable choice for more experienced sewing enthusiasts that don’t want to spend too much.

Stitch Options: The Singer 9960 offers a higher number of built-in stitches compared to the Brother FS40, with 600+ stitches, including decorative and alphanumeric options. Furthermore if you are in to doing a lot of free-motion sewing and embroidery the feed dogs can be dropped. This is a good machine, and despite having only a 40w motor it has coped with the materials she has so far used - even a heavy pair of denim jeans giving no trouble at all.
