I'm so glad I risked it, thanks to everyone else that left reviews with a bit of common sense in them. Got 2 of these to try out with my older cats - had to replace 1 immediately,as it was broken in transit. The used litter will fall into the right place every time and doesn't require any excessive effort to maintain it. However, we found out that we could line the drawer with the (larger) base liners instead of the (smaller) drawer liners; when the time to change the litter comes, the larger bag allows us to empty all remaining litter into the drawer and dispose of it in one go.

I previously bought another litter box with a similar sifter built in but the problem with it was that you have to roll it upside down to sift it which still requires effort and strength that I don't often have. Technology: no motor/simple and easy: The clean sand is filtered and sanitized through a special sieve, so you don't have to change it, just refill the level when necessary. The kittens just needed a shoebox as a step to climb to the entrance, as I described in the main part of the review. From the outside this unit is absolutely HUGE - something my Mum was prepared to get used to if it did a good job. It's my understanding that you need to have two litter boxes for one cat and one extra for each additional cat in a household.The plastic clips seemed equally flimsy and I guess it is rather difficult to know after only 10 days whether they would stand the test of time or not but we didn't feel optimistic with our experience. This unit is a pain to clean, in addition to the previous criticism, due to litter getting into all available corners. To refresh the litter pan, all you have to do is pull down on the lever to activate a seamless and noiseless process that quickly and efficiently sifts and disposes the waste for you. The SmartSift automatic tray includes a biodegradable liner for the cat tray (top refill bag) as well as one for the pull-out bin (bottom refill bag).

The parcel arrived simply posted in my letterbox, no knock, while I was inconvenienced staying in awaiting its arrival! There is also a large entrance for cats of all sizes, with a swinging door that closes on its own, ensuring that the unit is sealed shut, further controlling the spread of odors and dust. the box might not be completely perfect, but it's much better than what's said in these bad reviews.I find this ridiculous because when I first assembled the unit, I remember making a mental note of how quickly I suspected it would break. Oh and if you have razor sharp claws like I do then the bag gets progressively more shredded with each use.
