About this deal

I mostly say this because at lower player counts, you get more turns with the Black Die (as the Active Player), but at higher player counts, you end up being the Passive Player more.

It starts off fairly straight-forward, but gets more challenging as rooms get crossed off leading to a frantic race to the end. Every game starts off nice and easy like a jolly stroll though the park but later in the game it gets challenging to find the route to beat your opponents as your dungeon runs out of rooms to explore. We have a great selection of board and card games for all and are always happy to offer recommediations too! No problem—no one is waiting on me, I can move through turns quickly, and I can enjoy the game all by myself to play out a high-score challenge. Many of the bosses are only vulnerable after you’ve crossed out activating spaces, so these can be key to winning. In solo mode, the player acts as if they’re always the passive player, only getting to use the black die 3 times (6 if they choose it as one of their treasures). It probably won’t happen much, but I’m not wild about the player elimination if you run out of health. Quality You Can Trust – Ravensburger has been making quality games for the head, hand, and heart for over 130 years. Play will continue this way with the active player rolling the dice and all players making their numbered pairs until every monster has been defeated by at least one player.

Since the game moves a bit slower, however, you may find that you’re running the risk of losing health since the game’s gone on a bit longer. The game is played over a number of rounds in which a player rolls four white dice and one black dice. The rule benefiting everyone when someone defeats a monster for the first time is a help, but wasn’t enough to offset the leader’s head start. All other players get to deal 1 Damage to the Monster for free (even if you haven’t made it to the Monster’s room yet). I also find it interesting how each player’s map will look different and have taken very different paths despite using the same dice.Rooms you explore and cross out must already be adjacent to previously explored, previously scratched-out rooms.

Monsters also have hit points – 4 or 5 smaller boxes in their rooms that you must cross out to defeat them. That’s maybe a bit more that what most other RAW games are going to take, but there is a lot going on in the dungeon contained on the sheet before you.

The solo mode plays similar to the multiplayer game but you are always the passive player and hence have less access to the black dice. In fact, in a fair number of our games, the deciding factor in the final score has been the size of the penalty on the health meter! When you cross out one of those boxes, you fill in the corresponding number in the adjacent Monster space. Scoring is pretty granular, you only score in 2s or 3s – but how you get the points can differ greatly from board to board.

Plus, they can provide new and useful inroads to other parts of the dungeon that you haven’t gotten to, yet. Maybe play this game while at a great bar near your home that constantly supplies good music, since you won’t need to really talk to anyone! Points are added up from a players collected gold and gems and subtracting points based on your position on the life point track.
