About this deal

Our groundbreaking Connectors series uses peer-to-peer learning strategies that include every child – with proven results. I hated that she tried so hard to hide behind her smiles and YouTube videos so no one would know just how sad she really was inside.

Finally the drama at the end and Mal’s freak out, the things he said, and his decisions were just ridiculous. it was originally a 3 but that ending was pretty good, but it may be triggering for some people so I would read with caution. Cons, hoaxes, and scams are nothing new, but the methods over which they can be perpetrated are now so far-reaching, we as parents are remiss if we don’t teach our kids about how to identify them. The clean font and blog-style paragraphing, along with quirky little line drawings by André Parker all mean Faker is a pleasant and easy read. Why might memoirists pretend to be a Holocaust survivor, a gang member, and a recovered addict with a prison record? I honestly have more to say about how all of this (Penny’s need for validation, the fake dating, the dislike-to-love) ties together, but it involves spoiling the ending so I’ll hold off. I disliked the love interest and the best friend - Hunter and Stevie, they were not my vibe and the premise of the book, being about how all the characters are fake and hide behind masks, for different reasons and just not being their true selves wasn’t portrayed very well. The book wasn't very realistic in the life altering effects of those problems, BUT the book never claimed to be, nor was it written as, a medical text book on Mental Health issues.

Though this story seems somewhat superficial in places and the dialogue sometimes a bit melodramatic, it delves into the significant subject of being an authentic person. Living in the same community with her cold, hateful grandmother is painful and triggers an emotional rollercoaster. This collaborative approach builds teamwork, speaking, listening, comprehension and evaluation skills. The journey of happiness is not instant but takes time and Meg Collett highlights that in this book. As partners in a psychology class project, their job is to fool a dating app into thinking they’re a love match.

No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins.Formal classroom trials of Connectors show children’s reading age leaping forward by an average of 9. Yet, she is drawn to him, and the unexpected attraction to a man who challenges her to be her true self lands her in uncharted waters. All the hateful things she would say about her mother that made Kyra feel even worse and did not help with harming herself.
