About this deal

All in all, this novel is a masterpiece of horror 🙂 If you want a genuinely terrifying ghost story that can really creep up on you, then this one is well worth reading! If you fail to comply with this obligation, we may have a right of action against you for compensation.

Add one over-enthusiastic GCSE English student to a generous helping of equally over-enthusiastic grammar teacher and arrive at a grade 2 result. I hadn't read a James Herbert book for over 20 years, so it was good to immerse myself once again back in his world of horror and the supernatural. the way through - That is the wrong use of the word Szchiophrenic - I am really not liking this story. There are games to be played at this place, nightmarish pastimes of a deadly and maleficent nature, and only when they are done will Edbrook's dreadful secret be disclosed. Because of this ambiguity, the ghosts here feel genuinely unpredictable and frightening in a way that you won’t find in either a traditional ghost story or a traditional zombie story.

Well written, Herbert weaves a tale that beckons the reader into the storyline, with heart-stopping suspense that you can cut with a knife. For just a few, survival is possible only beneath the wrecked streets - if there is time to avoid the slow-descending poisonous ashes.Widely imitated and hugely influential, his 19 novels have sold more than 42 million copies worldwide.

I vaguely remembered seeing the movie years ago and thinking it was an awesome idea for a ghost story, but that it just had too many holes. While Robert, Simon and Christina cackle within the flames at his imminent death, Juliet appears and walks through the flames, takes David by the hand and rescues him. Three nights in which David Ash, there to investigate a haunting, will be the victim of horrifying and maleficent games. In the classic horror fashion, he is also very much a “damned” character who feels a deep sense of guilt and self-loathing too.

With suggestive bursts of ghostly appearances that become more and more frequent as the tale progresses, the old cliché of "am I going insane" is thrown into the equation, until finally the horrifying truth is revealed in an almost explosive manner. This novel also includes a really clever – and fairly subtle – nod to Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Shining” too, with a sub-plot about another character sensing that David is in distress and travelling to Edbrook to save him. Dal passato oscuro e misterioso, David, si trova ora a risolvere situazioni che alla maggior parte della gente farebbe rizzare i capelli. All of this subtle thematic stuff really helps to add an underlying feeling of unease and dread to the story that gradually builds up over time and can really catch you by surprise. Three nights in which David Ash, there to investigate a haunting, will be victim of horrifying and maleficent games.

Ok so I have just finished the classic book, The Rats also by James Herbert and this does not come close. He is helped (and hindered) by the mysterious incumbent family at the house - and soon finds himself involved in some very strange and scary experiences, the like of which can't be explained by simple logic. We mainly use Royal Mail Tracked 48 Service for goods which weight less then 2kg, all other goods will be delivered by a Courier. Back when I initially read Haunted (which was probably in the 90s), for some reason I thought it was one of the best haunted house stories I'd ever read; now rereading it, I think that it had its moments, it was fun, but in the end, it's really only the ending that saved this story from being just another ho-hum haunted house story.
