About this deal

Lonely planet has been my go to travel guide with so much information packed in the covers that it’s always been so useful that I carry it with me everywhere I go. Kayak around towering limestone peaks into grottoes and lagoons in Halong Bay; wander the warren-like lanes of Hoi An's Old Town; and sample the freshest, tastiest local specialities (and learn to cook them yourself). Vietnam's long exposure to foreigners means that many local residents aren’t as overtly curious about visitors as some of their counterparts in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos. After reading other reviews of this book, I'm glad I'm not the only one that dislikes the new format. Whether I was navigating bustling markets in Hanoi, exploring ancient temples in Hue, or relaxing on the pristine beaches of Phu Quoc, the Lonely Planet guide provided me with the guidance I needed to make the most of each destination.

The Perfect Choice: Lonely Planet Vietnam, our most comprehensive guide to Vietnam, is perfect for both exploring top sights and taking roads less travelled.

You’ll also find our content online, and in mobile apps, videos, 14 languages, armchair and lifestyle books, ebooks, and more, enabling you to explore every day.

Lonely Planet’s Best of Vietnam is your passport to the most relevant, up-to-date advice on what to see and skip, and what hidden discoveries await you. If you come home late at night, go with a friend and splurge the extra dollar or two on an automobile taxi instead of a motorcycle taxi. Of course I don't expect perfect information, but there are some serious shortcomings: One of Hanoi's three major bus stations (Giap Bat) is missing and so is information on buses from Da Lat to Da Nang - two major destinations.Simple phrases such as xin chào ('hello', pronounced 'seen chow') and cám ơn ('thank you', pronounced 'kaam uhn') go a long way.

It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. I have also read many worst case scenarios abut scams crime reports that are almost fiction in todays Vietnam. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Detailed and easy-to-read, they’re printed in full colour to make travelling and trip planning a breeze. While it’s thrilling to become a Vietnamese millionaire, dealing with that many zeros can become frustrating, especially since some of the currency is very similar in colour. You'll also find our content online, and in mobile apps, video, 14 languages, nine international magazines, armchair and lifestyle books, ebooks, and more. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Lonely Planet Vietnam is your passport to the most relevant, up-to-date advice on what to see and skip, and what hidden discoveries await you. Where to Eat recommendations (3 names at the bottom of the page, no address), provide information like "for a memorable meal", "tempting menu". If you’re in one of the larger cities, ride-sharing apps like Uber and Grab are good, offering both car and motorcycle taxis.
