About this deal

Mrs Harris's adventures take her from her humble Battersea roots to the heights of glamour in Paris and New York as she learns some of life's greatest lessons along the way. When Mrs Harris finally arrives at the House of Dior, she has no idea that her dream is about to be turned upside-down. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously.

What a joy to read two good, clean stories about normal everyday people who know how to enjoy life, pursue their dreams, and make life better for those around them. Like L M Montgomery, Paul Gallico has created a character filled with such life and warmth and laughter and tenacity that I closed the pages feeling like I had left a friend behind, and my heart and soul had been encouraged, uplifted and warmed by her presence. He wrote over forty books, four of which were the adventures of Mrs Harris: Mrs Harris Goes to Paris (1958), Mrs Harris Goes to New York (1959), Mrs. Although cleaners are more abundant now if anything the kind of person portrayed as Mrs Harris is probably extinct. It lacks some of the magic of “Flowers for Mrs Harries” aka “Mrs Harries goes to Paris”, but it is a nice read. Mrs Schreiber wants to take Mrs Harris with her to help her set up her new home, and Mrs Harris agrees, if she is allowed to bring Mrs Butterfield too. With unprecedented access to official and private documents, Sarah Helm reconstructs the life of Vera Atkins, an intelligence officer who worked in the France Section of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. Clothing is also the easiest way for humans to transform, disguise, reveal, and become apparently more or less than they are," fashion historian Hilary Davidson tells BBC Culture.

She loved nothing more than visiting the 'flicks', having a tipple (or two) at the pub on the corner, or an evening at the music hall with her best friend Mrs Violet Butterfield. Her adventures to Paris and New York were funny and I literally laughed out loud several times, not something I often do. I don’t know why this book comes to mind but as you start your adventures in the new world, you might want to track down a book about two young women’s adventures in the old: “Our Hearts were Young and Gay,” by Cornelia Otis Skinner and Emily Kimbrough. There was no rhyme or reason for it, she would never wear such a creation, there was no place in her life for one. for the first time Mrs Harris realised that she was leaving England behind her and was about to enter a foreign country, to be amongst foreign people who spoke a foreign language and who, for all she had ever heard about them, were immoral, grasping, ate snails and frogs, and were particularly inclined to crimes of passion and dismembered bodies in trunks.
