It does a pretty good job, but I do wish it went a little dimmer and/or had the option to turn off the screen like a lot of my past Pioneers did. i am looking to replace a kenwood 2din head unit due to several irritating issues and would like to know if this head unit also suffers from the same limitations. this Alpine is amazing,,,I bought this fir the 2 1/2" thickness /shallow mount,with the harness and the interface all went in well, tight fit in Toyota Tacoma's , the look and the tech is great, if you like more info Check out 5 Star Car Stereo on You Tube. But performance in the real world is affected by the acoustics of your car or home, your choice of amplification, and your source material. To fix this I removed the USB extender cable from the back of the Alpine and just plugged my USB cable directly to the port.
It doesn't directly have its own navigation app, you need to plug in your phone to use Android Auto or Car Play. It acts the same way as if you were getting directions right from your phone, as in theory that's what you are when you're using apple play.
