About this deal

Way back in the 1890s Alfred Barnard described "the chief characteristic of the Craigellachie brand is the pineapple flavour it develops with age". Other distilleries with worm tubs include Talisker, the new Rosebank, Royal Lochnagar, Dalwhinnie, Edradour, Oban, Glenkinchie, Springbank and Pultney.

I think we can say that Craigellachie walks that fine line between being approachable and having sufficient depth to appeal to the more seasoned whisky drinker. It takes up the whole rear label, almost, and even includes a handy wee illustration of the worm tub itself, for effect. Initially, the whisky matures in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks before undergoing a resting period of just over a year in Bas-Armagnac casks.I’m not sure if others would assign it as an overload of astringency, or even an overt tartness and as a result consider it too sharp - it’s all about perspective and what your exposure to smell and taste has been so far, isn’t it? I’m really fond of the Craigellachie branding and this one is no different - white label, ye olde worlde design and a nice robust bottle set the scene for what is to come - a robust and sure-footed whisky.

I’m not avoiding sherry casks entirely, because some of the most enjoyable drams I’ve had recently are single sherry casks or vattings of both bourbon and sherry. The distillery's copper worm tubs, used in the condensation process, contribute to the whisky's distinctive profile, imparting a depth and intensity that sets Craigellachie apart. Of all these tasty whiskies I’ve tried and liked, the Craigellachie 13 still sits in its own little niche. Now allowed to shine in its own light, Craigellachie is shown to be a chunky, spicy single malt full of character. This official bottling (one of three from the distillery including a 17-year and a 23-year, all new in 2014 after Bacardi assumed ownership) comes from a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, and is bottled at 46% ABV without added coloring and without chill filtration.Craigellachie Distillery's commitment to craftsmanship and the unique character of its whiskies make it a sought-after destination for whisky enthusiasts looking for a bold and unforgettable Speyside experience. The key components of Craigellachie - the dusty minerality and tropical smorgasbord are still present, albeit in the background now, and there’s very little, if any saltiness.

Unveiled in 2014 as part of the trio of official Craigellachie bottlings, their 13-year-old single malt Scotch whisky eloquently embodies the distillery's audacious and robust essence. Each sip of Craigellachie whisky delivers a captivating sensory experience, revealing layers of flavor that exemplify the spirit of Speyside.

Our eco-friendly approach doesn't compromise on protection, ensuring your items are safe during transit. For example, I really enjoyed the Bladnoch Vinaya and a Cadenhead’s Warehouse Tasting Ben Nevis 9yo, finished in a Manzanilla sherry cask, has me swooning. All Craigellachie expressions are non-chill filtered, contain no caramel colouring and are bottled at 46% ABV.
