About this deal

The test takes only a couple of minutes and it really works to build a more balanced sound signature. cost less and last longer than their predecessors, but the main draw here is the crazy amount of bass they can produce. In my case, there was a genuine difference, with the soundstage sounding more open and having greater depth. A pair of headphones could be the most well-designed and feature-packed ever, but if they don’t sound good, then they’re essentially made redundant.

You're also going to get more cushioning around the ears and headband, buttons and sliders that feel more easy to use, and even a nice carrying case. While I was writing this paragraph, for example, I was at home in the living room whilst my housemate was in the kitchen. Buttons are on the right ear, located very close to each other, and they're a bit difficult to find by feel. On the highest intensity, you can hear a decent amount of ambient sound filtered through, but it’s thin and very compressed. I’m looking at you, Bose and Sennheiser, because this Skullcandy update took a painless maximum of 5 minutes. The Crusher ANC’s plastic build helps with comfort over long listening sessions, but it feels like a downgrade compared to the previous Crusher 360 that was made of metal and offered longer battery life. Things get even tamer here because, without power, neither the subwoofers nor the ANC, or indeed the listening profile, are active. Speaking of which, once paired, an update appeared immediately, and sincerely, it was one of the quickest updates I’ve experienced.

The result of an extremely exaggerated bass is, of course, a more spongy frequency image that tends to swallow up any subtle nuances. Overall the mic seems to cooperate best with lower-pitched voices, so it’s not a total success story, but maybe you have a deep voice, so it’s not a concern. Listening to Steppin’ Out by Joe Jackson on the Crusher ANC 2 brings out some of the less audible fast drum machine and sequenced synth bass with the 80% Crusher mode on. At 332g, you may initially think the Crusher ANC 2 could do with going on a diet, as it’s one of the heavier pairs of headphones in the premium space. Our Deep Red colored review unit drew a bit more attention for its unique color but overall, the design is restrained.Furthermore, they’re very comfortable and offer extensive audio personalisation courtesy of the Skull iQ app. Alternately, there’s the Sony WH-XB910N which has eXtra Bass (hence, XB), and it utilizes touch controls rather than dedicated buttons. The Skull-iQ app (available for Android and iOS) lays out its myriad controls in an accessible assortment of tiles that sit below an image of the headphones and a battery readout on the main screen. Battery life is rated for up to 24 hours but we saw closer to 20 with Sensory Bass set to 25% and ANC on. The headphones output audio via a pair of 40mm drivers, and even before I engaged the sensory bass function, it became clear that Skullcandy’s reputation for deeply resonant bass is alive and well with the Crusher ANC 2.

Different, depending on whether you’re using a cable connection, if ANC is on or deactivated, and whether the personalised hearing profiles are enabled. The Skullcandy Crusher ANC are handsome, understated headphones, especially if you get the black colorway. Something weird happens as a result—you get a massive amount of vibration for the first two notes, and then that rumble just disappears. As with many of Skullcandy’s recent headphones, the Crusher ANC 2 are only available in one colourway – a rather basic-looking matte black. At the maximum bass level, the effect is the same for the deepest lows, but you just don't notice it as much because the drum loop takes a massive step forward. and you can control media players, summon your assistant (including Alexa and iHeart), access Spotify or even take a photo. As far as these nuisances are concerned, one can only hope that the manufacturers will make good in the future and rectify them with firmware updates. If all of that sounds more appealing than getting the strongest noise cancellation possible for your money, the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 are for you – pick up a pair and get ready to rumble.
