About this deal

I like the concept of the book, as book lovers we already know the joy of reading and the idea of prescribing books as a form of medicine or a remedy is a good one. Although she’d never have chosen it, her dance with cancer has changed her life in many positive ways. It could have felt a bit contrived, as so many books are listed and recommended, but somehow it works. Thank-you Netgalley and Headline books for approving my ARC request, it was an absolute pleasure to read.

A cosy story about the joy of stories, not only the books that are recommended for people who ask but the lives of the different people who receive them. While fiction, it is packed with the realities of what real people encountered, suffered through, triumphed over. Although this book features some of the same characters as ‘Lost for Words’, including Loveday as a viewpoint character, it stands alone.I don't think it helped that I've had respiratory issues for the last six months and the descriptions of people fighting for breath were a little too familiar! Everyone had differing experiences in the Covid pandemic, and their needs differed depending on their jobs/ home life/ security/ wants and desires.

I didn't realise before I read it that there was a book that came before it, but I have now bought that to read as well, as I think it will fill in some of the gaps and Archie was talked about so much that I want to know more about him. Personally I found it quite a cathartic read and it helped me process some of my lingering emotions around my own lockdown experience. All in all, I enjoyed the book and look forward to exploring the reading suggestions at the back of the book. I liked the idea that when you read the first sentence of any book, you are completing the author’s work. They get personally involved with a few of them, and of course we get the backstory of the small staff as well. This sparks an idea in Loveday, and she realises that there is something positive they can do to help people get through the crisis while also helping the business. There’s a woman who’s just escaped from an abusive husband…and there’s a moody teenager who takes what seems to be an irrational dislike to Kelly.

In het boek lees je over de boekverkopers, maar leer je ook alle klanten met hun specifieke boekverzoeken kennen. At times there is humour although not as much as in the last book which is understandable given the serious nature of the times. I'd recommend this book to book lovers as it contains lots of book recommendations within it and I've written quite a few down. I adored this novel but I cautiously recommend it, as I am aware that the Covid-19 pandemic is ongoing and a novel about it may be triggering for some people.
