About this deal

It does rehash some of what o learned in the book titled “Golf By the Numbers” by Roland Minton” and that is good info. His methods are tried and tested - and proven to help golfers worldwide get better without having to stand on a range all day, tinkering with their swing. Incredibly intuitive information ie- shoot for middle of green in approach shots, focus on speed primarily for putting, etc. It probably works best as the video version Sherman references, middle as a print book with all the references available, and third as an audio.

This is a great “coaching” book; you won’t find any swing tips or advice on technical maneuvers here. I preferred Young’s book, even though the writing in Sherman’s is more articulate and better organized. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. There are four foundations to building a successful game - expectation management, strategy, practice, and a sharp mental game. The quality of the information in this book was high, there just wasn't a whole lot I didn't already know. After a few bad swings, they would lose their composure and continue in a negative mindset for the rest of the day.

Also, anyone who follows Jon on social media will find a lot the same things discussed there covered again in the book. I would go out to play with a devastating combination – lack of preparation and unrealistic expectations. The chapters around managing expectations were particularly helpful to me, using Strokes Gained understanding. But since the author is apparently a plus handicap, perhaps he could have added a little on what he sees as the fundamentals of the swing.

The predicament was that I kept telling myself, “I’m a great iron player, but I just struggle off the tee and on the greens. Jon provides bits of advice on key aspects of the game that he has received and tried out throughout his golf journey. If you want to become a better golfer, you will need to learn to dig in when things aren’t going your way and change your habits.

The Four Foundations will teach you how to be your own coach, and not waste time on methods that don't work. Guidance on training to provide a more enjoyable round where a poor score on any given day does not destroy your enjoyment of the never ending challenge which is the game of golf. Jon does an amazing job at quantifying the specific areas of your game that you need to improve if you want to start scoring better. In my quest to become a better tournament player, it became apparent by watching other golfers and benchmarking my performance that these were also problems that needed to be solved. I believe The Four Foundations is the most comprehensive and practical guide on how to improve your golf game and increase your enjoyment.

My score was the only litmus test of success, and when I felt it was out of reach, I would give up on the day. can not recommend this audiobook enough, I'm a 13hc golfer and after listening to this book went and shot a 77 (5 over) round due to listening to the concepts in this book. Instead, he approaches golf from a player's perspective, with a singular goal: To help you play better golf the next time you tee it up. A pretty comprehensive accounting of the mental aspects of the game, and an excellent use of Statistics and data driven Analysis. But to this day, despite what I consider a very high grit level, there are still rounds where I have to struggle to stay engaged.

The goal of a golf book should be simple—get you to shoot lower scores—but so often they're bogged down by technical jargon and theoretical filler. What you do now is a mirror image of the type of person you believe that you are (either consciously or subconsciously). This section, along with the work of many of Jon’s references, showed data and educated or corrected me on defining: what is a good golf shot; what is a good round; and setting realistic performance expectations.Anyone who has read "The Practice Manual" (written by the author's podcast partner) or "Be a Player" by Nilsson and Marriott will find a lot of similarities in this book. I’ve been recommending this book to anyone who has ever picked up a golf club, whether they’re a 30 handicap or a 2 handicap. My overall rating reflects the fact that there isn't much here for people who've already explored a lot of other high quality golf instruction books.
