About this deal

Never For Ever wa a much more layered and complex album than Lionheart, and took the characterisations and musical arrangements one step further.

The Infant Kiss", the story of a governess who is frightened by the adult feelings she has for her young male charge (who is possessed by the spirit of a grown man), was inspired by the 1961 film The Innocents, which in turn had been inspired by The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. overall Never For Ever is one of the mst epic albums Kate has done and one of my top 25 favorites, a must for everyone. Bush was keen to start producing her work and felt that this was the first album she was happy with, since it was more personal. What he created firmly resonated with Bush’s inner world, echoing the artistic influences she held dear. However; the other Single featured on this Album: 'Army Dreamers' I was not so keen on, but I would say on the original vinyl LP that Side Two is probably the stronger one of the two.

It was also the first ever album by a British female solo artist to top the UK album chart, as well as being the first album by any female solo artist to enter the chart at no. It features the UK Top 20 singles " Breathing", " Army Dreamers" and " Babooshka", the latter being one of Bush's biggest hits. Her incredible talent with this album, therefore, didn’t go amiss, and, as her first fully-fledged foray into production, served to be just about as archetypal Kate Bush as you could get. My Granny was rather deaf, and so the only lyric she was able to pick up on was Kate singing the 'Out' from the lyrics: 'In - Out', but being deaf, inevitably sounded very much like a pointless 'Ouch' or needless shrieking/squealing to my Grandmother. Gaffaweb - Kate Bush - REACHING OUT - Never For Ever Debut with Peter Powell - Radio 1 - Oct 11, 1980". The woman featured in his work, ‘Undine in the Wind’, bears a striking resemblance to the figure of Bush depicted on the cover of Never For Ever, right down to the detail of both figures standing on their toes. It was also the first album by a female British solo artist to top the UK Albums Chart and the first album by any female solo artist to enter the chart at number one.

Evoking an intriguing sense of mysticism and surrealism, various animals emerge underneath her dress, including a yellow-eyed owl, a black crow, and a pair of white doves. This means that there isn't an immediate (ahem) 'Wow' factor, but the rewards become evident on repeated plays. The infant Kiss-now for a change of pace from the previous songs, Kate goes more mellow with the ballad of the album, but unlike most ballads this is told with Kate's unique style and kitsch attitude with sound effects while the message still hits as deep as it should with pure emotional resonance, as pure as Kate can be. However, as someone has already commented, the older albums do seem to benefit from being remastering better, including this one. The initial two albums had established a distinctive sound that permeated every track, characterised by opulent orchestral arrangements complementing the live band’s presence.Incluye los éxitos "Breathing", "Army Dreamers" y "Babooshka", esté último siendo uno de sus más grandes éxitos. Beginning production after her 1979 tour, Never for Ever was Bush's second foray into production (her first was for the On Stage EP the previous year), aided by the engineer of Lionheart (1978), Jon Kelly. Not that keen on the Fish people logo (it's better than the earlier version though), but it's muted colour means it doesn't jar with the vinyl itself. The artwork exudes a dreamy and otherworldly quality, aligning seamlessly with the album’s thematic explorations and diverse musical journeys. Bush cited his ability to capture reality in a fantastical yet profoundly beautiful and elemental manner and found his depictions hauntingly evocative.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. On side-A of the original vinyl release label, however, she is depicted as a graceful white swan, abstract concepts that were also featured in the music videos for ‘Delius’ and ‘Babooshka’.
