About this deal

Of course adults can sit down with kids to explain this but I don't think it's a book that a child will appreciate as much as the adult. New York Times best-selling author-illustrator Oliver Jeffers and fine artist Sam Winston deliver a lyrical picture book inspiring readers of all ages to create, to question, to explore, and to imagine. It is a lovey story and very focused on a love of books, which is something that we both hope to instill into our child.

His distinctive paintings have been exhibited in multiple cities, including the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Brooklyn Museum New York. He has made art for Newsweek, The New York Times, United Airlines, TED, Nintendo, and has illustrated a a number of novels.

The main idea of the story is about how reading a book can unlock a world of imagination but this idea won't make sense to children who just haven't had that experience yet.

Combining elegant images by Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston's typographical landscapes shaped from excerpts of children's classics and lullabies, A Child of Books is a stunning prose poem on the rewards of reading and sharing stories--an immersive and unforgettable reading experience that readers will want to pass on to others. It is both an invitation to succumb to the heady pleasures of reading, and a work of great beauty and imagination. A Child of Books acknowledges the thrill of scary stories, the excitement of adventure narratives and the enchantment of fairy tales. The beauty and power of children’s books is the subject of A Child of Books, which reads as much as a poetic manifesto as it does a story. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do.

In 2013, Jeffers illustrated the vinyl cover (a drawing of Nelson Mandela) for the U2 song "Ordinary Love". Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.lullabies, A Child of Books is a stunning prose poem on the rewards of reading and sharing stories — an immersive and unforgettable reading experience that readers will want to pass on to others. Jeffers and Winston's first collaboration is a celebration of the child's world, illustrated in sumptuous double-page spreads featuring explosions of images borrowed from unforgettable sources. Therefore, we step aboard, to watch as we embark, to realise the substance and meaning of our route and then the parts that might be included on our travels.

Jeffers and typographic artist Winton collaborate on a hymn to the power of imagination, in which witty pen-and-ink drawings meet manipulated blocks of type, composed of passages from children's classics. Elegant illustrations by Oliver Jeffers are accompanied by Sam Winston’s astonishing typographical landscapes, beautifully shaped from excerpts of children’s classics including Treasure Island, Little Women and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.Interesting detailed drawings that could be great conversation starters for younger children, but I think this treasure is the PERFECT gift for the older (teen and up) book lover. I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.
