About this deal

himself, who loves to namedrop different conspiracies, just dropping breadcrumbs for his followers to Google. By loosening our grip on absolutes, on what we tell ourself to believe, it creates space for a new narrative, a new story of a world that we actually want to participate in. This book takes a massive, complex and frankly heartbreaking subject and breaks it down into digestible and most importantly uplifting chunks.

Charles argues that the negative direction that this planet and our species is heading can be traced back to one root cause: the stories that we live by that we use to answer the questions "why am I here? I’ve tried to please everybody, like, am I willing to sacrifice that if that’s part of stepping into my next version of myself. So my walls are the best thing to sort of protect me and keep me safe in a world that, you know, isn’t the dust that is still acting in the narrative of separation. And we do see in extraordinary circumstances, like the COVID at 19 situation, we do see people cooperating. One of them is, is the power of the truth made visible, which comes from, I mean, there’s many ways to make hidden truths visible.

We’re seeing both actually, and we’re seeing like, you know, profiteering and hoarding, but we’re also seeing cooperation that, that is coming out of the woodwork that speaks to this latent yearning to live and relate in a different way.

Our systems of money, politics, energy, medicine, education, and more are no longer delivering the benefits they once did (or seemed to). It is beautiful because Charles Eisenstein has the courage to be vulnerable and it is in acknowledging our vulnerability that we will realize our greater humanity.

It will in fact require the kinds of technologies that are inaccessible to the consciousness that wants to escape responsibility for earth. So I expand that unit and I care about my wife and my children, and I care about my parents and my brothers and their families. Eisenstein will be noted in antiquity as one of the seminal and pioneering storytellers of this new world. I won’t ruin the punchline of that piece but after seeing his name come up over and over again I decided to listen to Sacred Economics, his second major book, published in 2011 in its first edition. Listening to this book felt almost like remembering some forgotten dream; almost as if I were listening to a version of myself from the future, where I had become a more badass and mature version of myself.

What, how powerful would you be if you were able to ride those synchronicities, if you had mastered the technology of being at just the right place at just the right time meeting, just the right person, those people who are really successful in the world is that because they are so organized and so together, or is it maybe sometimes because they were in the right place at the right time playing out a story that was written in advance. You have a rare talent of provoking reconsideration of seemingly bedrock aspects of one’s worldview. The more beautiful world my heart knows is possible is a world with a lot more pleasure: a lot more touch, a lot more lovemaking, a lot more hugging, a lot more deep gazing into each other’s eyes, a lot more fresh-ground tortillas and just-harvested tomatoes still warm from the sun, a lot more singing, a lot more dancing, a lot more timelessness, a lot more beauty in the built environment, a lot more pristine views, a lot more water fresh from the spring.

He has wholeheartedly confirmed to me what I’ve felt and known all along, this is all crumbling - the consumerist idea of Christmas - I’ve been keenly aware of that since my childhood. Furthermore, any policy that shifts economic activity from a local to a global scale will damage community, because even when money is used to facilitate local transactions, something else happens along with money exchange. As I mentioned earlier, the time to do is when you know what to do when we don’t know what to do and act anyway, you’re probably acting out of habit.

Yet we seem helpless to change, helpless even to stop participating in industrial civilization’s rush over the cliff. The first step is to give attention to your yearning, to do that, and to bring into consciousness, things that may have been excluded from the table of your awareness, such as the dissatisfaction with the success arc that maybe has taken you, taking you to a certain place and then hit a glass ceiling, and you realize there’s some other level of wellbeing and happiness that I’m not getting any closer to. Both are in service to an emerging story of the People that is the defining mythology of a new kind of civilization.
