About this deal

I bought the "For Dummies" book for this camera which is a thousand times better than the manual for explaining how things work. Although you can autofocus during movie recording, the camera uses the painfully slow contrast-AF mode, and even the user guide warns against trying to auto-focus. A large, bright 3-inch Clear View LCD monitor with ultra-high 920,000 pixel resolution, a viewing angle of 170 degrees and dual anti-reflection coatings makes it easy to preview, review and share your shots even when you are using the camera in bright sunlight. G'day Shaun, I am not familiar with the Canon D90 (possibly under another name here in Australia) I'm sure though that the quality would be good because I am impressed with Canon quality even at Entry Level equipment. The Canon 400D sure was a good camera, in fact I think it is still a good camera but with the way technology is changing Cameras are just like computers they are obsolete before they hit the shelves.

Canon’s CMOS technology is one of the company’s key competitive advantages, with noise reduction circuitry at each pixel site delivering virtually noise-free images. With a 15-megapixel CMOS sensor and Canon’s award-winning DIGIC image processor, the Canon EOS 500D allows photographers to capture minute details in high-definition. Luckily for me, it was the model with the automatic sensor cleaning :) This one sounds like it would do as well but with the added bonus of video. ICC (International Colour Consortium) profiles can be attached to TIFF or JPEG images when converted from RAW. Because it is CMS (Color Management System) compatible, Digital Photo Professional allows for easy image layout and printing in Adobe RGB in conjunction with Easy-PhotoPrint and PictBridge printers. As well as aiding shooting from awkward angles, Live View mode includes contrast based and Face Detection AF options.

It includes a faster Digic 4 processor offering better noise reduction at higher ISO's and continuous shooting speeds of up to 3. For a camera making such a big noise about its video mode, it's quite difficult to actually start recording one.

The image is displayed on the rear screen and focusing can be achieved manually or by the three AF modes featured in LiveView. There's a full explanation of the differences between the 500D/T1i and it predecessor on the coming pages but, in general terms, it's a gentle re-working of the 450D. Canon's latest generation of DIGIC processor, the DIGIC 4, is the brain of the camera and is responsible for the superb responsiveness of all EOS models.

Digital Photo Professional software provides high speed, high quality processing of lossless RAW images. As you can see, with Image Stabilisation turned on, the images are much sharper than with anti-shake turned off. I'm glad the Hub was a help but you should know that there is a lot more to this camera than what I have explained. The camera’s factory default configuration is set to deliver immediately-usable JPEG images without need for additional menu settings. Dust Delete Data Detection - Any dust that still remains on the front of the sensor can be erased with software included in Digital Photo Professional software. We've taken a closer look at the image quality and dynamic range impact of the move to a Stacked CMOS global shutter sensor.

The Canon EOS 500D's dust-removal technology, where the sensor is shaken briefly at high frequency to dislodge any dust particles from its surface, has been upgraded with a fluorine coating on the low-pass filter for better dust resistance.Beyond this, levels increase more rapidly and at the highest 12800 ISO setting the image shows some serious signs of break up. shots per second for up to 70 JPEGS and 9 RAW files, a slight improvement on the EOS 450D and impressive for an entry-level model. The difference between Canon (and Nikon) and the others is that Sony, Olympus and Pentax have opted for stabilisation via the camera body, rather than the lens, which therefore works with their entire range of lenses. Image data captured by the CMOS sensor is processed by Canon’s purpose-built DIGIC image processors before being written to the camera's memory card. I was given the kit to try out, and I am sure a lot of people want to know as much as they can about it.
