About this deal

Full Disclosure: The product discussed here was provided by the manufacturer for the purposes of this review. This same Olympus camera setups have worked properly at 1080p and 4K with an array of Elgato, and off-brand, inexpensive knock-off brand capture devices. It’s not just a nondescript brick sitting on my computer desk, it’s attractive to look at with the RGB flashing on the top, while the center dial makes it really easy to control my audio levels without having to dive into OBS. The encoding quality you can achieve will be limited by your processor’s capabilities so your results may be better or worse than ours.

The performance you get from this unit is what you’d expect out of a capture card that costs significantly more! Each of those cards can handle 1080p60 capture, but the XR1 Pro sets itself apart by being able to not just handle 1440p and 4K pass through, but capturing both resolutions as well, even supporting HDR signals. Delivering full 1080P 60FPS gaming and video, and being Certified for OBS allows quick and easy installation! There isn’t any major software to install, nor are you required to download a ton of drivers, the PC simply reads the card as a webcam.

Different modes and audio levels use the lights as an indicator of what's going on, and the RGB is the only part of the XR1 to have its own companion software. Both of the single-system configs see substantial frame skips which reduces the ultimate quality of the footage.

To go with the dial there's a headphone-out/microphone-in jack as well as an input for party chat linked from a controller. While the end results are indistinguishable, there are some very minor differences in the OBS stats. If you're looking to up your streaming game, we certainly recommend giving the EVGA XR1 a closer look.

Moving the next notch up to Slow has the footage completely fall apart with more than 80% of frames getting skipped. There was no frame skipping, color compression, bitrate compression issues or color inaccuracy issues present. In the end, most PC streamers who aren't using two PC setups are running OBS or their platform of choice and capturing their video right there. The EVGA XR1 is the best example I've seen in some time of a product that will catch you out if you don't read all of the marketing and the small print.
