Scream Factory has announced special features details for their upcoming 4K Ultra HD release of Evil Dead. Unfortunately, it only contains the R-rated theatrical version of the movie, not the much-hoped-for unrated cut that was handed an NC-17 rating. The sadistic and depraved horror remake also finds its way to Blu-ray with a highly-entertaining, reference-quality DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack that will even your neighbors screaming bloody murder.

Being Mia (HD, 9 min) — BTS footage and comments from Jane Levy make up the bulk of this video diary showing the actresses' makeover as the film's main character. tracks are the same great tracks from the previous Blu-ray releases and the option of a stereo fold-down is a fine alternative for those without surround sound capabilities, but the lack of a Dolby Atmos track is sorely missed. The highly-stylized cinematography is intentionally subdued and restrained, an almost monochromatic palette that heavily favors a steely blue and metallic marigold orange tint, adding to the story's gloomy atmosphere while simultaneously limiting the color range. Scream Factory presents the film on Ultra HD for the first time in both its theatrical and unrated versions from a “new 4K restoration by Sony,” graded for high dynamic range (HDR10 and Dolby Vision options are available, though the latter is only included on the unrated version).Those familiar with the plot of the original will be right at home here, the only difference is that there’s no character named Ash as they wanted to preserve that bit of history.
